Car Rental Agencies near Port Canaveral

Ugh I am hearing so much negativity about Budget.. maybe I should book with someone else.

Just used Budget last week without any problems. Picked the car up at MCO and used Fastbreak...walked right to the garage past the long line inside and got the car. My husband dropped us off at Port around noon and then returned the car. We went in and checked in and by the time we were done he was back and we got right on the ship. We used Disney transport back to the airport, but when we got off the Ship around 8:30, there wasn't a line at any of the rental pickup places. Probably just depends on timing.

If you are renting, get off the ship as early as possible and go straight there. If you catch the first shuttle you're better off. Or consider taking a cab to the rental place. On debarkation, if you will all fit on the shuttle, go together to get the car, it saves you the time of having to go back to the port.

We have had good and bad experiences with all the rental agencies. I book with lowest price I find.

We rented from Hertz about 18 months ago. Experience was fine. The shuttle was crowded, but so were all the other car rental company shuttles. I wouldn't rate their service any better or worse than the others.

We generally use Budget in both directions and, since they have added more shuttles, we have not had an issue. But, I will also add that we have been taking DCL transportation to the port so I can't speak to the drop-off experience reported. We are doing this for our November cruise and now I am second guessing and we might return the vehicle on Friday and take the shuttle from the hotel. NOT interested in standing in line that long to return a vehicle.

I noticed this thread hasn't had updates in a while. Are there any updates on locations of rental companies or any recommendations? Getting ready for our first cruise arriving at Port Canaveral on Jan 19 2017. Plan on renting a car and driving either to my sister's or WDW. Flying out of FLL a few days later. Thanks!

We used Budget in August. Two cars for 9 people. Two one-way rentals. No loyalty to them, they were the cheapest for the kind of cars we wanted. We had less than a half hour wait each time at the counter and for the shuttles. I know Budget had four shuttle buses (of various sizes) running back and forth to the port those two Saturdays. We dropped our people off at the port first, not to save time, but for OUR CONVENIENCE. Just less people and luggage waiting in line to get the shuttle back. (Kind to others waiting for the shuttle too.) Also, our people could then get through security and check the baggage and then wait inside for us to return and check-in. On the way back, we all got in the line for the shuttle (DCL will show you where to go) so that we wouldn't have to return to the port. In this case, we put our two drivers at the front of our group, and they were able to get into an almost full shuttle (since they didn't have luggage) while the rest of our group waited for the next one. This way, by the time the rest of our group arrived, the cars were rented and ready to go.

I'm sure these things are always a bit hit or miss. "Your millage may vary."
