Car question

I cannot even begin to describe how much I LOVE my Kia Sorrento...LOVE. Love the options, love the way it drives, love the value, loved the price. The only thing I don't like is it does have a blind spot in the back, had to get used to leaning forward and looking back over shoulder (out the front window) and using my mirror more. Still? Totally worth it.

Last year we were trying to choose between the Sorrento and the Highlander. I test drive the Sorrento 3 times but in the end chose the highlander and I absolutely love it.

I had a Chevy traverse for a year and half, and while I loved the way it drove it was ALWAYS in the shop! 14 times in a fact! Not for little things either:(. Brakes went , power steering failed, ALL the coil packs blew, and several other big things:(. I got rid of it because I felt it was going to be a giant money pit after the warranty was up:(. Bought a Honda odyssey in replacement of it:)

I have a Kia Sorrento and my friend has the Chevy Traverse. I love love love my car however I just had to have the transmission completely replaced, and its only 4 years old. They did say they never seen anything like it before and thankfully the 100,000 mile warranty paid for it all. My friends 2012 Chevy is in the shop right now and is having a whole new engine put in it, its throwing a rod and it only has 9,000 miles on it. It too is under warranty.

Every vehicle will have a chance of having problems ,but hopefully the warranty covers that.Dollar for dollar ,Sorrento can't be beat for what you get.Imo,the best vehicles out there value wise, are Kia and their parent company Hyundai.

My Traverse is 2.75 yrs old, has 50k miles on it, and has NEVER been in the shop.

I cannot tell you how happy we are with this vehicle - it's almost supplanted my beloved Expedition as my favorite car of all time. When we were car shopping, we looked at the Traverse and the Mazda CX9. The Traverse had a roomier front, the option of captain's chairs for the second row, and used regular unleaded gas (the CX9 requires premium). Dh preferred the Mazda (he's had 5 so far), but I was happier with the Traverse and the cost of regular gas. The Mazda was slightly cheaper.

We have driven the Traverse on multiple 400 mile round-trip trips. It's been to Disney (KY-FL-KY) once. It's getting ready for a 9 hour drive to VA. It's commonly stuffed to the gills with boy scouts, who still fit easily into the 3rd row seat at 5'6" (and that's why I wanted captains chairs).

As stated above, the only things we've done have been routine maintenance. It does require a $75 synthetic oil change 3x a year in order to keep the power train warranty in force, but that has been the only expense associated with maint. I did upgrade the floor mats to the heavy-duty rubber mats (about $300 for all 3 rows) and we added a trailer hitch ($250). We don't tow, but we purchased a hitch basket ($250) and a couple of locking boxes ($75) to have room for luggage for 7 when the third row is in use. There is room for several backpacks / duffle bags behind the third row, but definitely not enough room for luggage or camping gear if the car is completely full. It will cost a fortune to replace the tires (priced them at $275 ea when I bought the car), but at 50k miles, my tires are still original and in very good shape. I get them checked and rotated every oil change.

I would definitely purchase this car again, and I highly recommend it. The only cons I have heard from another owner is that the 2nd and 3rd rows do not recline, making it less comfy than a minivan for travelling with the swim team (boy scouts, whoever you haul around). None of the kids we take with us have ever complained about the lack of recline.

All other things being equal, there is real peace of mind knowing there is a Chevy dealer in every small town who can help you if you need it.

Our Acadia (GMC version of Traverse) has been trouble free for 5.5 years and 80,000 miles do far :)

I'll also ask why you are comparing a full sized crossover (Traverse) with a small/medium crossover (Sorento). I don't really consider them to be comparable, b/c the size really will make a difference in lot of areas. Do you need 3rd row seating? How big are the people you want to put in the third row? Do you need a higher towing capacity? Is fuel mileage a big concern for you? These two vehicles are going to vary quite a bit for each of these items.

Edmunds comparison of the two:

KIA Sorento or Chevy traverse?

KIA normally has a better warranty and incentives to buy. I would choose the vehicle that provides the best value for the money. Unless something has changed since the last time I shopped around, that would be the KIA.

We have 2 friends with the Sorento and they love them. I don't know anyone with a Traverse. Could that be an indication?:rolleyes1

I see Traverses all the time, and know 2 other families who have them, plus a cousin with an Acadia. They are awesome vehicles if you can handle the fuel costs (I get about 17mpg for regular driving, about 23mpg for all highway driving).
