I'm debating whether to use disney transportaion or rent a car for first week in May. Myself, wife, two boys 7yr and 6 mos. We will be staying @pop with the free CS dining plan (they e-mailed us a pin) and was wondering if I should spend my savings on a car.

We are bringing an umbrella stroller so I won't have anything to bulky to get on and off buses. I am worried about wait times for buses.

We booked thru AAA so I will have a prefered parking pass which is nice. I wil also need to make a grocery store run.

Decisions....decisions.....

It's a no brainer get a car. Gives you so much more flexibility. It will be money well spent.
You can get tired real quick waiting for buses.

We went during free dining last November and stayed at POP also. It was me, husband, 5yr old daughter and 6 mo old son. We thought about using Disney Transportation for the first time as we were trying to do our 5 day trip on the cheap. We ended up getting a rental for a good price. I'm glad we did. We were able to stop and pick up a few things (beverages and such) for the room. Also, we brought the travel system stroller. Very easily gate checked, both car seat and stroller. Loved having it coming off the plane. Also, was nice to have the baby fully recline when he fell asleep. With the car, it's nice to come and go whenever you please. We had early morning Character Breakfasts - one at Crystal Palace on a MK day and one at Cape May on a HS day - and with the car it's very easy to do. No waiting for busses and trying to figure out if you'll have enough time to get there. Another nice thing to having a car is at the end of the day, everyone is in their own seats while driving back to POP.

Another vote for a car. You will be so grateful to have it when you want to make a quick and easy getaway. Juggling a baby, diaper bag, stroller and who knows what else on a bus is never fun.

WE ALWAYS rent a car...we go through priceline.com. Most we've ever paid is $168 for the week...we think its a must. The kids can fall asleep in the car. We can keep a spare change of clothing, shoes..etc.... we stop at walmart and take a down day and go to the fleamarkets and stuff!!! I am not fond of fighting for a seat together on a crowded bus!!! not my idea of fun

Okay....we are less than 2 weeks away and have decided on that a car is the way to go....now the options.

1) hertz@ mco for $250 free car seat AAA member
2) Alamo @mco $208 bring a seat
3) Alamo @ car care center 1 day less using DME $168 smaller car
4) Hotwire @ MCO $179 bring a seat
5) Priceline @ MCO ??$160?? bring a seat
I have never used Priceline or hotwire. Ihave heard to many conflicting reports on DME being and not being a luggage del. service so if I rent @ MCO I need an intermediate or larger.

2 - Alamo, bring your own seat. You just don't know what you're getting when you rent a seat, and you aren't familiar with installing it. You know your seat, so you're more assured of getting a good installation, which is most of what makes a seat safe.

Alamo offers the use of a kiosk if you enter your basic info online prior to your arrival - it makes the rental process so quick and easy. We've never waited in line for a kiosk, which is a big deal given all the lines we see on our way to the kiosk! (and I don't think $40 is worth the hassle of using DME from the airport then going to get a car there, but that's just me.

And with Alamo (and National), you choose your own car, so you can pick the model you want (within the class you booked). I usually peek into a couple to make sure I don't choose one with a funky smell. ;)
