Just wondering if, for most of you, did your home car insurance cover your car rental insurance? or did you purchase more insurance through your home car insurance company? or did you take out the insurance through the car rental company?

Thanks!

Yes...mine is covered in the policy (for a very reasonable price)
Never, ever done it throught the Car Rental Comapny....rip off.
Some credit card companies will cover your rental.

I have the extra rider on my personal car insurance, so I do not buy the rental car's insurance.

As the other poster advised, many credit cards also offer rental insurance (however, you should closely read the policy to check for exclusions -- ie is the insurance primary or secondary, car types excluded, etc).

we have our own..just make sure it covers loss of use,,and some have limits on car value..mine is $1700.00 for vehicle value..loss of use and all other stuff..

We add it on to our own vehicle policy. $15 for 6 months. Love to say money.

We have the coverage on our own insurance for rentals. It is only $12 extra a year I think.

Good idea to check the limits on car values and anything else that may apply. A claus on ours it will only cover a vehicle with less than 7 seats for passengers.

I too have the coverage, and it is great!! I called my car insurance agent as I was worried about having to pay for any damage up-front, but he assured me that all the coverage would be done through them....I would just have to contact them and they would deal with the company....it's a wonderful thing! I know I never have to worry about that....Had I had known this a few years back, it would have made my life easier!!

I live in Manitoba and we are buying insurance here for $15 (one time fee) plus $7 per day.

we added rental to our auto for $60.00 for the year,,covers any rental car...just make sure it covers everything..liabilaty ,,car value,,loss of use to rental company..all the other stuff ,,look at it good and ask question to your agent..we upgraded ours to more coverage,,,look at it good!!!!!make sure you have proof of insurance when you rent it the some t9imes ask and they say we donnt like that type..buy ours to be safe,,thats why you need proof and a good policy!!!

We have insurance also that covers a rental. I do put the whole price on my visa which will cover the collison and loss of use. My main concern is if I have an accident down there and get sued my insurance will cover it all right but how much will my premiums go up for years after. I have bought their liability before if it's primary. But it seems like such a waste.

Well covered, but not all policies have this included so do check before you leave home because as a precaution they should also know that you will be away and driving a Rental car. Just to note on your file...:thumbsup2
