WOW! it's been a while since i've been on the disboards, life somehow got in the way, and i've been non stop hectic dealing with the lows, the bottom, and the scraping back outs that it's brought with it.........

With that said, my last trip to Disney was 2008. FARRR TOO LONG! Finances prevent me from going this year, so we've scrutinized the pennies, crunched the numbers and dates, dribbled at the disney pictures (an essential part of the pre-planning process), picked our jaws up off the floor from the price increase in flights..... and BOOKED IT!

So, we're off to the land of the mouse at our normal villa from October 12th to November 2nd. 3 G-L-Orious weeks in the sun :goodvibes

Two of our travel companions (a couple our age, low 30s) are terrible at saving so while they're pencilled in, we're not holding our breath they will be joining.

If they do, car hire will be simple, a stonkin' great SUV (Chevy Tahoe or similar). If they don't, it's only 3 of us.... so we're thinking.... convertible! the cost is similar, but we've never had one in america, so we decided it had to be done. I mean, it would be rude not to.

BUT, is the weather likely to be good enough to have the top down much, or would we be better to go with the SUV option... Opinions please we are stuck on this highly critical part of the trip.... :confused3

So how's everyone doing?

Welcome back:goodvibes

That time of year is ideal for a Convertible IMO, Summer is too hot to have the lid down, winter can be too cold, late Oct perfect.:thumbsup2

The soft top should be quite a bit cheaper than a full size SUV, just got a quick quote 7 seater SUV £610, Convertible £478 This was with Auto Europe incl 7% cashback via Quidco.

Cool, not used them before, will definitely keep them in mind...

the plot thickens a little as it seems our other travel companion, who always comes, is buying a house this year so financially she doubts if she can make it. On the plus side this means that if only 2 of us go, we WILL definitely go the convertible route. On the down side... oh wait, there is no down side, we're going to Florida :D

I love travelling with our friends but i equally love 'us' time, so whether it's 2, 3 or 5 I don't mind :cool1:

:cool2:

Personally I wouldn't have a convertible as a hire car in Florida. We have a Mazda MX5 and it's so easy to get sunburn even in the UK. Also some convertibles lose a lot of boot space with the top down.

I don't mean to be a partypooper but that's my advice.

Looks like we might also be considering California instead, as it may end up being just 2 of us....
