Captain's Grille dinner

We have ADR's for dinner at Captain's Grille. After listening to the Dis Podcast, I am having second thoughts. The reviewer called it his worst dining experience ever at WDW. The service was HORRIBLE from both the server and the manager. Two of their dinners were served cold, not even lukewarm. The plates sent back to the kitchen twice, and both times, they still came out cold.

Has anyone eaten there recently? I want to hear about the good, the bad, and the ugly about Captain's Grille.

Thanks!

I ate dinner there in June. I am a foodie, and a bit of snob about certain things. Food wise, it was the second best dinner of my 10 night trip. Only CG was better(for record we also ate dinner at Kona, Les Chefs de France, Boma, Trails End, San Angel Inn, and I can't remember the rest - notes on other PC). Our server was on the slow side, and a couple of times I had to flag down another server for lemon for my ice tea. But my ice tea was never empty. The manager came by our table a few times and made sure everything was ok. I had the mussels as an appetizer and they rank as some of the best I have ever eaten.

If the menu appeals to you, I suggest you keep your ADR and decided for yourself.

We ate here on Monday. We had a great server, but the food was just OK. I wanted the filet, but they took it off the menu just recently. I settled for the Prime Rib which was a disappointment. (But we found most of the food during our 10 day trip to be a disappointment). The PR was not hot and the colder it got, the tougher it got. We did tell the server how disappointed I was that the filet was removed and he agreed. We love this place at lunch time, and will continue to visit during lunch (love the fish and chips), but will not visit during dinner anymore unless there is a menu change. We just returned last night and found alot of menu changes during this trip. We were not impressed with the TS places we ate at. Nothing stood out and the CS places were the worse we've ever encountered after 100s of visits.

this is a 'must do' for us on every trip, but for lunch. The dinner menu never truly appealed to me. There seem to be a handful of restaurants in WDW that are in the resorts that come across as almost the same 'hotel' restaurant; this one, GF Cafe, Turf Club, Olivia's, all the Moderate sit downs. Good for a nice lunch, but dinner, eh. :confused3 There just seem to be more appealing options in WDW for dinner with regard to theme and creativity (for now at least!)

I totally agree. I suspect that's Disney's intention.

You listened to one person's experience and are willing to think the place is horrible based on that one opinion?

If I listened to one bad review on a Disney restaurant, I'd never eat at Disney World. Conversely, if I only ate at Disney restaurants that got rave reviews, I'd be disappointed with the food most times.

You are not going to have that same dining experience that reviewer had. It's impossible. My brother-in-law will never step foot in another Applebee's again. You think I stop going to Applebee's because he doesn't like it?

We ate there in April and LOVED IT! Tons of pics and review in my April link

This is why I am soliciting more opinions. I know I won't have the exact same experience as the reviewer. I just wanted to find out if others had similar (not exactly the same) experiences or if this was a fluke. Having never been there, I want other's opinions. I booked the dinner based on the menu and now I am looking for peoples experiences there. Contrary to your belief, I am not basing my decision on one review.
