captain jack sparrow character?

He's with me now... we just finished our bon bons and now we're getting ready to sit down, relax and watch PotC movie.

















Seriously, I don't know why Disneyland got rid of him - when we saw Captain Jack, ours was so 'spot on' to Johnny Depp's character it was a real cool 'act' to see. Our kids loved him! I wish they'd not have gotten rid of his character, either.

It's possible it's budgetary, b/c suspiciously, the tinkerbell fairies moved in just as Jack was moved out.

It's possible that he got so many complaints, b/c he acts like a pirate (talking about rum, taking no guff, ignoring rude people, etc), that he wasn't worth it anymore.

It's also possible that the behavior of "fan grrrrl" type women drooling all over him caused it.

Now I, personally, never saw women freaking out over him, and if "Jack" wasn't freaking out about it I don't see why that would bother the bigwigs (guests behaving badly isn't Jack behaving badly). But I have seen Jack behaving in a very piratey manner towards some people who didn't seem to appreciate it as much as they might enjoy seeing Mickey pretend to eat cheese (staying in character is staying in character, after all). I loved the pirateness of him. Others, not so much.


I once was on the raft to PLonTSI when that tall, deep-voiced pirate (not Jack, but he's in a commercial that started airing JUST as all the pirates disappeared) started brokering a marriage between two 11 year olds...hilarious to me, but maybe not to others.

Well if you want to see Jack you can always come to the Renaissance Faire in the spring The most famous and one of the best Jack's is actually a regular at the large local Renaissance, which was also the first Ren Faire in the country. Not helpful at Disneyland, but great for tourists looking for something else to do

I seem to be hearing more and more that he was removed due to female guests getting to "frisky" and making propsitions and such.

Whatever the reason I agree completely, it would be cool to see him in the parks again

Well, here's the first example I saw. I can imagine that City Hall heard about it, without the info that made her look bad.


We were at his picture spot with the treasure, and there was a line. The family with him at the time involved a mom and a couple/few children. Jack was being flakey, but would have gotten back to the task at hand (signing books) soon...but the mom got angry about it, if memory serves she sort of shoved the autograph book back into his hands, and she did say something like "oh you WILL sign it" to him. He handed the book back, turned his back, and moved on to the next family. NEVER went back to them, though the mom stuck around for a few minutes.

It's something Mickey couldn't do and wouldn't do. But Jack is a pirate and he CAN. It's totally in character for him. He could, and he did.

I'm sure that wasn't the only instance of him doing things like that, b/c as I'm sure we all know there is no shortage of rude people at DLR, so they might very well have grown tired of fielding complaints about how Jack out of the blue, with no reason, just turned his back and ignored a family's dear sweet children for absolutely no reason. (note: the kids were fine, and embarrassed if I recall correctly...I felt bad for them)

what a meanie! i want jack back lol. but hey i could totaly buy the letting him go because fans were too frisky too lol

When we were there last year I spotted Jack and told my family to "follow that pirate!" He was really, really great with my daughter. He knelt down beside her, put his arm around her and held her hand for a picture. My daughter talked about "Jack" for a long time after that. (at 3 she has shown signs of loving the bad boys) After reading about how he can at times act I was almost disappointed with how well he did with Jerrin! At the same time I was relieved because I didn't know how Jerrin would have reacted if he had truly stayed in character.(probably would have loved him all the more)
When I told her that Jack wouldn't be at DL the next time we go she was really sad. Oh well, I am glad that we got to see him when we did. I will just have to take her on POTC a lot so she can at least see the animatronic(?) version of him. It will just in no way be the same.

In addition to the complaints and frisky ladies..........it also had to do with royalties......to Johnny Depp- because he's the "face" of J.S. he gets paid a royalty fee every time they use his face/image etc.

Disney got tired or havign another paycheck to write.....

DS's encounter with Jack is something he still talks about almost 3 years later! On his 3rd birthday and 1st trip to Disneyland, we saw Jack tromping by and yelled our son's name to get his attention to look at Jack (he was in a stroller, tired, sucking his fingers.) Jack heard us, stopped, and walked up to my son, addressed him by name, and asked, "Those fingers taste good, do they, Mate?" My son's eyes got wide and he just nodded and grinned. Jack was definitely in pirate character, but at the same time quite sweet.

We saw Jack twice, and we saw him in the show they had on Pirate Island. The first time we saw him we literally ran into him on the Island, the girls reacted as you would expect, they were very excited. They ran up to him and even tho he was very obviously on his way somewhere he did stop and talk to them, he even posed for a photo with DDthen8, he was very in character but still polite to my girls. The second time we waited at his treasure spot in line, well the girls were in line, DBF and I were sitting on a bench waiting for their turn. His assistants kept saying he had to leave but he'd seen our girls come up and decided to cut the line after them, I guess he could tell how excited they were to see him so he waited for them, I think he also saw how the group behind them tried to cut in front of them and he left after he saw my girls. Anyway, that time (different Jack) he was very much in character and played with the girls, he smelled DD's flower topped pen and made funny faces at it because it was "broken", I think he actually said "Oh dear Mate, your flower is broken and stinky" LOL I took quite a few photos and my favorite one is him leaning on DDthen12 and resting his arm on DD9s head. LOL I loved Jack and miss the character. It's unfortunate that they took him out. I'd be happy if they brought him back.

DD loved him! He was always good with anyone I saw - trust me we waited to meet him several times! lol.

He was always very good with dd. She loved it when she was wearing her pirate outfit and he got "mad" at her for leaving the ship to come see him.
