After the successful return to Disneyland (Anaheim), comes the annoucement yesterday that Captain EO will be coming back to Tokyo Disneyland.

URAYASU, CHIBA— Tokyo Disneyland Park will welcome the return of Captain EO after a hiatus of about 14 years. This theater-type attraction features a 3-D film starring Michael Jackson as Captain EO, who leads his crew on an outer space adventure. Original music and unforgettable dance performances are made all the more impressive through 3-D imaging and special effects. This special return of the attraction will be presented from July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2011.

I've seen a few rumors that it's also returning to Disneyland Paris, but couldn't find any official confirmation.

BTW ... Captain EO is replacing TDL's version of Honey I Shrunk the Audience. I think it's a good switch.

Yes, you read right…the classic 3-D film experience “Captain EO” is coming back to Walt Disney World Resort this summer just months after it reopened to rave reviews at Disneyland park. The 17-minute musical space-fantasy adventure film is now scheduled to begin at Epcot on July 2.

I remember enjoying “Captain EO” during its original run at Epcot from 1986 -1994. But for some of you, it’ll be a new experience. The film features Michael Jackson as “Captain EO” and a crew of Disney-created space characters. During their journey, the group uses the power of dance, light and music to turn a colorless planet into a world of color and happiness.

And there’s more. “Captain EO” will be returning to other Disney Parks locations. It’s scheduled to open at Tokyo Disneyland on June 30 and Disneyland Paris on June 12. We’ll have more details on the film’s return to Walt Disney World in upcoming weeks but we wanted Disney Parks Blog readers to be among the first to know. Please check back for updates.

I'll be interested to read everyone's reactions. I went a couple of weeks ago & saw it w/my kids (22/21) at Disneyland.

They laughed out loud in a few sections - it's pretty dated.

Mary Jo, we had the same reaction as your kids! When Rob was out here for the D23 party we watched it together & we were crying from laughing so hard while trying to be quiet. It's definitely nostalgic and we loved watching it, but it is very dated & quite cheesy (although in one of those oddly good ways).

I wonder what they'll do for the 'special effects' in the other theaters - the effects here at DL are quite interesting, for lack of a better term. I'm looking forward to watching it at WDW in October to see if/how it's different.

It should still be there in October. There is merchandise in the large Tomorrowland store, right by the entrance closest to Captain EO.

I heard a rumor just this week that it will be here "at least" until the Fall. In Disney speak, I'm sure that means until Fall of 2012.
