I think that (in addition to providing a cheap remodel to the tired HISTA) Disney is simply capitalizing on the nostalgia that a lot of people felt when MJ died. I was never a fan of his, but I did listen to his music when I was younger and I do remember seeing Captain EO back in the early 90's. I'm excited to see it again on my next Disney trip - not because I am a MJ fan, but because I'm excited to relive something that I remember from my childhood.
I think the last year has given many people who were young in the 80's/90's a chance to remember Michael Jackson for the music that he pioneered and not for the train wreck that came later. For me, Disney is about feeling like a kid again and I'm excited that Captain EO can be part of that.
I think Disney is doing the smart thing by bringing back Captain EO for a "limited engagement" (whatever that means). Clearly the interest is there, and I think it's awesome that they are bringing back a classic attraction at a time when the public wants to see it. It's like Disney periodically bringing back movies from the "Disney vault". Yes, MJ had a questionable lifestyle, however Captain EO has nothing to do with that.
