Captain EO. Radical.

My dad used to make us all go on this attraction when I was a kid and I thought it was kind of cool, however I wasn't a big fan of Angelica Houston's character in the movie. Then when it came back, I decided that I was feeling a bit nostalgic so DH and I took our DDs on it. They thought it was kind of cool because they liked how the floor moved. As for the movie now, I agree with the others that it is time for a new attraction to go in there. Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't they talking about a major refurb for the whole pavilion sometime in 2014? Maybe with the refurb (if it happens) they will replace it with something more state of the art, and then bring back the old Figment .

Captain EO is the attraction version of Beverly. Most only suffer through it once and then only use it to tease their unsuspecting guests!

We are a family of MJ fans and I was a big MJ fan as a kid, but I agree that its time for Captain EO to go bye bye I lived in SoCal for much of my childhood and visited Disneyland several times and Captain EO was a big deal for us when it came out. I remember how excited I was to see it when I was 8 years old . On our recent WDW trip this past May, after exiting the show I told my DH and kids (who had never seen Captain EO before since we skipped it on our 2011 trip) that this attraction was considered state of the art and high tech - back in the 80's; and I joked that I clearly remember waiting an hour in line with my family at Disneyland to see this DH and DD11 both wear glasses and they both said that it looked like there were two MJ's in the show because the film was so fuzzy looking The nostalgia factor is great, but unless they do something to improve the technology of the film and maybe even bring back the motion simulator (I remember the seats moving and shaking during Captain EO when I saw it as a kid - similar to the way the seats move in Star Tours) then its time to retire this attraction and bring something new to the Imagination Pavillion.

Funny, different tastes-I have loved this from the beginning. I squealed with delight when I've seen it recently. Love the '80s nostalgia! Is it dated? Yes! Am I ready for something new? Yes! Will I see it on my trip in a few weeks? Probably not, but more because I think I'd have to go by myself-DH went once, he won't go again & DD4 would be terrified, lol. Bring on something new, Disney!

We saw it last year. It was cute and my tween kids enjoyed it (although the had tons of questions as they barely know anything about MJ). Not something I would go out my way to see, but campy and when you get in the right mood, kinda fun.

I'm confused.

Are you guys talking about the Captain EO that:

• was directed by Francis Ford Coppola famous for the Godfather which is widely regarded as one of the greatest films in world cinema
  
• was produced by George Lucas who blessed us with Star Wars which became a worldwide pop culture phenomenon, not to mention introducing us to one of cinemas most revered film characters of all time Dr. Henry Walton "Indiana" Jones Jr
  
• starred Anjelica Houston who became the third generation of her family to win an academy award for her performance of Maerose, the daughter of a Mafia don who loved and lost in Prizzis Honor
  
• and also just happened to featured Grammy Award winning and double inductee in the Rock and Roll Hall of fame Michael Jackson, who is universally acclaimed as the most successful entertainer of all time

Plus, I havent even mentioned the show-stopping performances of Fuzzball, the small flying sidekick and Hooter, the clumsy elephant-like shipmate...who curiously received no awards or even nominations for that matter....which in my personal opinion is simply a harsh indictment of the intolerance that puppet actors endured in Hollywood in the mid-80s....and the fact that the seats in the auditorium shake in time to the music which is totally cool.

You can't be talking about that Captain EO.

Aw, we love Captain Eo! And my husband and I will be seeing it again, the next time we're in Epcot. It makes us giggle (especially over MJ's "leadership" style). We theorize that as soon as MJ's back was turned the natives all turned on their ex-queen and sacrificed her. And it makes us feel nostalgic for the 80's.

We took our teenagers to see it, too, and my son (who is hugely into music, of all kinds) actually bought one of the rainbow t-shirts afterward.

It was awesome - he was wearing it at the Animal Kingdom the next day and a castmember actually ran out of the parade, shouting, "Michael!" and gave him a high five!

But, all that said, I'll agree with everyone else and say that a refurb of the entire Imagination Pavilion is way overdue. It's time for the Captain to retire.

Don't get us wrong, I think many non EO fans are still big Michael Jackson fans. I think that's why I dislike it so much. They could have just put some great old MJ concert footage on the screen and I'd go see it every time.

Nevertheless you should still go experience it at least once.

Another person here who LOVED it in the 1980s. I was not a big fan of the HISTA they replaced it with so I really looked forward to seeing it again when it came back. I caught it in 2011 and again this year but it's purely nostalgia (and to stare at EVERYBODY's hair in the film - did we really all wear it like that? Yes we did!) It's fun but it's not what I expect of Epcot. Let's have some state-of-the-art Figment with Dreamfinder!

They could have taken some of the billion dollars they spent and are spending for magic bands and improved the parks.

As someone who saw captain EO for the first time last year, I can say it's one of my favorite 3d shows ever. The cheesiness is the best part of the show for me. My friends and I go to Captain EO every time were in EPCOT.

Because of the lackluster reviews (LOL), we have avoided this attraction each time we have been in the park since they reopened it. Now, feeling like it may not be long before they remove it, I am going to make the family suffer through it next month! I may even get a Fastpass+ for it! LOL (Well, I won't go that far!)

I'm glad I am not the only one. I actually enjoyed Honey I Shrunk the Audience and hated it when it was replaced. Ultimately I believe something will replace it in a few years. Until then, this attraction will not be on my must do list, should do list or maybe do list. It will stay on the skip this attraction list.

2 - Produced by George Lucas who blessed us with Star Wars Episode 1, Episode 2, and Episode 3 and Indianda Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

3 - Starring Angelica Houston, who shared the screen with the Duff sisters in the gem Material Girls.

And features the music by Michael Jackson, who gave us that knock-out song Scream (with his sister Janet) and collaborated with Eddie Murphy on What's Up With You.


Fuzzball rules, though. I must give you that.


I thought this was the height of awesome (if not totally bizarre) back in the 1980s. I first saw it as a sneak preview in Epcot, and remember as we were walking out of the park they were playing the soundtrack and projecting MJ lasers on the SSE ball. Had some free promotional posters, too (sold those on eBay a few years back). But after having seen it again recently, this show is so dated and kind of a freak-out. I am just glad my son didn't have nightmares.
