Just heard on a Disney FB site that Today is Captain EOs last day? Anyone else heard about it? I can't say that I am sad about it.....

What will REPLACE this? Does it have something to do with Star Wars or Marvel?

Rumor has it that there will be a 3D Guardians of the Galaxy preview opening around the July 4 holiday. One rumor I read included that EO is "expected to return at a later date."

Huge EO fan with a February 2015 trip planned... I'll be a bit bummed if there's no EO.

First, let's be accurate - no "Disney FB site" posted any such thing. It was obviously some fan site, and yes, that rumor has been spread elsewhere. We know that the Magic Eye Theater will close tomorrow. We know that it will host a Guardians of the Galaxy sneak peek when it reopens July 4 - said to be through August 15.

update I don't remember see the following statement in the original blog post, but it's there now:
Captain EO is expected to return at a later date.

From the GotG trailer I watched, I got the impression that this is not a family movie (lots of college humor). Maybe I'm wrong and it was just the way it was edited, but I think this preview may not be very popular in the parks.

On a related note, I finally got around to watching The Lone Ranger, and wow, how did Disney every think they would sell kid merchandise with this movie? Only my DD13 stayed in the room with me for the entire movie, and she thought it was creepy. The only thing it had to offer the younger kids was a train wreck (no pun intended). And the bad guy eating the good guy's heart--seriously? The only silver (again, no pun intended) lining is that the Lone Ranger Lego sets can be had for cheap if you need more bricks for the Lego tub.

I'm glad I saw EO this month, if only for the historic value of it, and hopefully they will bring back Honey I Shrunk the Audience for more retro fun.

Most definitely agree. The music was outstanding! But what in the world? No one, not even ADULTS wants to see that crap. A major misstep and disservice to a fun character for Depp.

Good riddance (in my humble opinion) only about 15 years overdue.

You cant go by a trailer. And all the Marvel movies have had one or two adult humor jokes. I think it will be very popular because it is a Marvel film. It also makes sense to have it in the Captain Eo theater and keep it in Tomorrowland. I look forward to checking it out when I come in July.

They released a new GotG trailer this morning. I won't try to link to it here since I somehow mess up links every time I try, but I'm a big comic nerd and this is the first trailer that actually got me excited for the movie. No college humor, just Marvel goodness.

Captain Eo can go the way of the Dino. It's something I have no plans to ever see again. And the last time was 1990. Disney could make a great attraction here that would absorb huge crowds instead of the 30 folks that trickle in now. I know Philharmagic wouldn't fit in Tomorrowland, but something needs to be done there. It's things like this that make DL feel dated.

Not a MJ fan so I have never seen Captain EO so I don't have a comment on it good or bad. But I can tell you that when we were there in April, as we were walking onto SM I looked over at the entrance to EO, and there was no one, I repeat no one in line to see it. Just sayin.

Captain EO was a good thing to bring back for like 6 months but after everyone saw it once, it was enough. They kept it wayyyyy to long in that theater. They need something new.

I know we are in the minority but DH and I love it even if we recognize it may be time to move on. I remember it being in Epcot the year it premiered and loving it as a kid. I still love it as an adult but won't try to convince anyone otherwise - to each their own of course.

I will say last time we were there in May we were happy to see the theater was actually decently filled probably a good 35-45% which is more than usual.

It will be interesting to see what happens after the GotG preview.

I am looking forward to seeing the preview at DL next month. I am a comic nerd (work at a Graphic Novel Distributor) and I'm not really jazzed about seeing GOTG. Hopefully the preview gets me excited for it. I was a big fan of Captain Eo as a kid until Jackson did some of his stranger things. I'm kind of glad it'll be gone. Some nostalgia lasts forever (IASW for example) and some things are better left to something new. This is one of those areas that is better for something new.

Saw Capt EO once back in FEB 2010 when it opened!

That was more than enough times!

I am with those who posted its time EO move along!

Yeah for bringing in something NEW! :thumbsup2

It was fun dragging the kids to it (my older 2 swear MJ is a girl. They just will not believe me that men wore make up in the 80's) once or twice, but it's time to go.

The Muppets need a major refresh, too, IMO.

I am a fan of EO only because I'm a true child of the 80's but I agree that it has been there too long. I'd love to seem them revamp the theater and put the "Laugh Floor" in there. That attraction is one of our favorites at WDW.

My daughter enjoyed Captain EO several years ago, but honestly I kept dozing off. If they do plan to bring it back, or have something else, it would be nice if they alternated shows.
