Captain EO-February 2010

So excited to be able to watch EO like it should be watched (In 3D! At Disneyland!) again! Seriously, my BFF & I are SO there in February or March :thumbsup2

i wish i knew how long limited was... lol disney is making me go in Feb for Captian EO and in April for World of Color!

OMG OMG OMG !!! I'm sooo excited!!! I'd been wondering when/if they'd bring it back! HOORAY!!! Time to go book up the next trip!!! WOOHOO!!! Thanks Tom!

Does anyone know what "limited engagement" means? From Feb 2010 until when???:confused3:confused3:confused3

Thank you for the info!

Barring any unforeseen problems (like if it proved to be gravely unpopular) I would THINK at least through summer, and wouldn't be shocked if it were a full year. I know there have been rumors of different durations, but in fairness it was initially claimed that Captain EO would be back in October of last year! ;) Hopefully we'll KNOW more soon.

Also saw this story on our local ABC news this a.m. Mentioned that Mr. Lincoln as also back (we saw him yesterday). No mention of length of engagement.

I was one of those who was there during it's opening weekend when DLR was open 24 hours for the whole weekend. Not that I'm a big MJ fan, we just wanted to be there at 3 in the a.m. :lmao: We also did the same thing when they opened Star Tours. I believe this would have been in 1986/87. :confused3 It was surprising how busy the park was on those weekends. I remeber it as being pretty busy. I know the line for ST was all the way down MS. We didn't ride it that time, waited until another visit. Wouldn't it be cool if they stayed open 24 hours over it's opening weekend? Very nostalgic.:wizard:

I remember that, too! I SO wanted to go to the opening day, but my parents didn't want to go (can't imagine why...24-hour-Disneyland STILL sounds like the most fun thing ever; guess they weren't up to it :rotfl:). I did get to go later during the first week it opened...the lines were INSANE!

I don’t get it….I just watched the movie on YouTube and I have to say my immediate thoughts are “that’s 16minutes + of my life that I’ll never get back”….it was one of the most ordinary things I’ve ever seen….poor green screen, some sort of death star chase scene rip-off, cheesy puppets, amateurish stop motion animation, a lame song and a story that made little if any sense at all…Why on earth are so many people so excited about this thing?

I’d be the first to agree that MJ did some excellent work in the past…thriller being the perfect example….but this thing is far from excellent, it looks to me like something thrown together to exploit the popularity of MJ at a point near the height of his career and that’s about it……

Hopefully when they (Disney) say that it’s back for a limited time they mean it so that they can get on with providing a quality attraction….

I wish I knew how long it was going to be there as well because we are actually planning on a cruise next fall and so I don't know WHEN we are going back as a family and I know my girls would LOVE to see this. My little one esp has become OBSESSED with MJ since all the hype around his death. They of course didn't even know who he WAS until everything came up about him and then they started watching his videos on You Tube and now esp my youngest LOVES his music. I know she would love to see his show.

Sure EO was cheesy but you have to remember when it was made. That was about right for the 80's. This was before they had the special effects and stuff they have now. Sure it was a little silly but I happened to like the song and I remember as a teen I always liked watching him dance and I liked his music and that was pretty much what the appeal was. And I am sure the puppets appeal to the smaller kids.

I don't think it is meant to be some fabulous movie spectacular. It is just supposed to be some fun little film. But the point is that it has HIS music and dance and people want to be able to see it cuz obviously he won't be making anything anymore.

When I first saw it back in the day, honestly, that's how I felt. I wasn't a Michael Jackson fan at all and no, the storyline/etc. isn't really particularly good. But I believe it actually was quite high-budget and at the time it was considered pretty cool. :3dglasses I think with the new effects they're fixing to put in, it should be a pretty good show, at least once. :)

I am also one of those people who desperately wants to see something if it's for a limited time only, but will put it off forever if it's not. I would've gone to Disneyland for Halloweentime if Captain EO had been there for Halloweentime only. But the only offerings appeared to be (for the most part) things that will be back next year, so no rush.

Tiana's Showboat Jubilee, however, which is unlikely to be back once the Rivers of America are refilled, we saw three times. :)

Regardless, I think it'd be a great break from Honey, I Shrunk the Audience, which isn't a HORRIBLE show, but the beginning is surprisingly dull and the repeat value is low. At least songs make for higher repeat value.

RUMOR has it that they're going to replace EO with "Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor" from WDW. I would much rather see rotating 3-D movies (they can't be THAT expensive to make, and if they even changed them out quarterly--one for each season--it would attract the locals that come to the parks). That would allow it to be more flexible.

I personally doubt local visitors will really find Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor to be compelling, unless they make some pretty significant adjustments to account for the fact that a huge group of guests visit Disneyland several times a year, not just annually or less.

So I vote for more 3-D movies, and/or something with WALL-E in it. :)

I am planning a trip to DL in 2010 also and I REALLY want to see Captain EO AND World of Color! We're traveling from Oregon, so we can definitely only go once.
I heard that World of Color is opening in May 2010, but it sounds like others have heard April. Does anyone know the official date? Is there an "official" opening date yet?
Also, wrt Captain EO, I have heard that it is only running through April 2010 and I have heard that it will be at least a year. I would think that it's too expensive to put it in for just 2 months, right?
It's kind of driving me crazy to not be able to pin down a month that we're going!
If anyone hears anything about the duration of Captain EO please post!
Thanks!!!

LOL! Yes, they do suck us in!
To add to the complicated vacation planning, not only do I want to schedule my trip around Captain EO :3dglasses AND World of Color, but now we're getting hooked on the idea of running the Disneyland Half Marathon in September, which I just accidentally found out about! ::MickeyMo

Does anyone know if the Park will be offering Captain EO merchandise for the re-release? I had the tshirt when I was little, and wore it til the poor thing fell to pieces :rotfl: & would like to get a replacement when I'm there in March or April.
