A few questions as I am looking at my first Poly visit with DS, DIL, DGD- 5 and DGS -3, in April. We will be staying at the Poly for the 1st time, and we will be on the Dining Plan. I am looking forward to staying at the Poly and I have a few questions.
Is Captain Cook's considered CS on the Dining Plan? Is the food as BAD as I see reported here? I read it was going to be renovated - any updates on those plans? Anything else I need to know?
Thanks for your help.

Captain Cook's is considered a counter service on the Dinning Plan. It is just a small fast food restaurant and its food choices are limited in comparison to some of the larger newer and more elaborate counter service places at WDW. The food is fair at best, but then again that is the same at most of the counter service places. It is also pretty good for a fast breakfast. There is nothing to stop you from going to other places to eat. We were on the Dinning Plan and used most of our counter service meals at the parks. I wouldn't worry about it. The Poly is wonderful. Jay

We visited the Poly on our last day for the ohana lilo and stich breakfast and then we spent the early afternoon renting water mice on Bay lake. We visited Captain Cook's for lunch before leaving to go back to our resort (Coronado Springs). We HATED the Pepper Market at our resort but LOVED Captian Cook's at the Poly. The choices were limited but the staff was awesome and my kids throughly enjoyed the burger and fries! We should have gotten our last CS meals to go for the airport at the poly but we thought why travel with it when we can get it at the Pepper Market. Boy were we wrong. They had nothing that my kids would eat to take to go and when I asked to get fresh fruit in place of a CS meal - you would have thought I was trying to steal from them. I think that you will find that Captain Cook's is friendly and a nice place to grab a quick bite to eat.

I wouldn't go out of my way to eat at Capt Cooks but if you are staying there its convenient. Some people say its bad- but a chicken strip is a chicken strip.

The thing we like about Capt. Cooks is that its open 24 hrs (they stop cooking food at a certain time). Its nice b/c you can come back from the parks late at night and fill up your mug and buy a snack like a cupcake or a little salad or something.

We've sometimes gone there at like 2 or 3am - the poor CM that works there all by themselves all night seems so bored :coffee:

I agree with Ilovestitch. If you're tired and don't feel like going anywhere, Captain Cook's is serviceable. I just think there are better places to eat not much farther away.

Personally, I like the walk over to the Grand Floridan and eating at Gasparilla Grill and Games - the food tastes fresher.

Thanks for the replies. JayCT, we probably will use our CS credits primarily for lunch in the parks. I was just wondering if about Capt. Cook's since I have heard it is not good. Just trying to learn everything I can. The suggestion to go to Gasparilla Games is a great idea, if the situation arises.
Thanks Again

We quite enjoyed Captain Cook's. It's small and the choices are limited but the food was decent and the staff was among the most helpful we encountered at any food place. When the counter-service places at the Magic Kingdom are jam packed, Captain Cooks can provide a quiet meal. And best of all IMHO, is that Captain Cook's has NO ARCADE!

We've only eaten breakfast there and it was fine, nothing over the top. Be advised though it's very small and gets crowded in the mornings when everyone has the same idea!

In a word "AWFUL", service was awful, tok them 3 time to get my order right.
When they did it was awful.
They Poly is a great place and deserves better than that place.

You should try the Kona Cafe in the Polynesian for a quick meal. It is a casual, relaxed, beautifully appointed cafe with a great location. You can watch the shoppers, see the monorail coming & going and look up at the beautiful leaf inspired fans.

The food is excellent, we actually prefer it to Ohana. Make sure you go for breakfast and get the Tonga Toast - it's one of the most popular breakfasts on the Disney property.

We were there in April with my parents, husband and our three little ones - we all loved it!

Side Note -
The coffee bar outside of the cafe has the best coffee on Disney property also.

I've not been in 2 yrs but they used to have a really good pulled pork sandwich isn't that on the menu any more?

Yes, they still offer this at the Kona Cafe. Very yummy!
