Tonga toast only comes one way - stuffed with banana and served with syrup packets at Captain Cook's, or stuffed with banana and served with Strawberry coulis at Kona Cafe. The only option is that they will serve it without the cinnamon-sugar dusting if you ask.
Perhaps you are thinking of the Tonga Toast at Rainforest Cafe at the Animal Kingdom? That one is served with strawberries and bananas on top of it, but no fruit inside it at all. IMO it is a very, very pale comparison to the Tonga Toast at the Poly locations.
The two Poly locations are essentially the same with the following details:
At Kona it is served with strawberry coulis while at Captain Cook's the choice is syrup packet or nothing. When eating at Captain Cook's I just eat it plain, because with syrup it is too sweet for me, but the strawberry sauce at Kona is just acidic enough to add a little something to it without making it sweeter.
At Kona it is served with a meat choice (ham, bacon, etc). I generally don't eat this part of the meal, but my travelmate enjoys the availability of 'extra' bacon. At Captain Cook's there is no meat included with the toast.
Generally, in my own experience at least, the size of the toast itself is slightly larger at Kona. This is not a downside to me, though, because it is already more than I can eat so really I'm just leaving more behind at Kona than at Captain Cook's.
As for the toast itself, it can sometimes be a hit-or-miss. While it is usually perfect and wonderful at Kona, I have had less-than-great plates of it there. And while it is usually just as lovely at Captain Cook's, I have had subpar plates of it there as well.
(this is from Kona Cafe's menu): Tonga Toast - banana stuffed sourdough bread, rolled in cinnamon sugar and served with Strawberry Compote and your choice of ham, bacon, or sausage.
(this is the one fro Capt. Cook's): Tonga Toast - banana-stuffed sourdough bread, battered, deep-fried and dusted with cinnamon and sugar

Does anyone know about the Tonga Toast they serve though room service at the Poly? Does it lean more towards one or the other...or does it have a twist of it's own?
I was too and ended up HATING the stuff! Just personal preference I guess but majorly over-hyped on here. We were staying at the Poly and our entire family went to Capitain Cooks for breakfast - not one of the 5 liked it or finished it!
