Captain America on Disney Magic?

I thought Disney owned Deadpool but 'leased' it to Fox (?) as it wasn't child-friendly enough for Disney to release it as a movie whilst staying true to the comics? I just remember hearing somewhere how Disney was making money out of the movie.

And thanks for the reminder about the Silver Surfer. That brings back lots of childhood memories. :)

I don't claim to be an all knowing guru on the subject, but a quick google shows he's a fox character through and through. The first movie Deadpool was in was X-Men Origins - Wolverine, and he was even played by Ryan Reynolds. It kind of makes sense he's with Fox though as he's more associated with the X-Men (though clearly isn't one of them).

Thanks for that. I have no idea how I managed to mishear / misunderstand that he was part of the Disney / Marvel universe :).

In fairness... in the comic he has a good, if odd, relationship with Captain America.

Technically Deadpool is part of the Disney/Marvel universe. But not part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. :) Marvel (which is owned by Disney) owns the character, but they don't own the movie rights. Before Disney bought Marvel, Marvel had leased out the movie rights to most of their big names because they needed the cash. Disney bought back pieces of the movie rights (like The Hulk), and now have the joint deal with Sony regarding Spider Man, but the X-MEN (which Deadpool falls under) and Fantastic Four are still the big ones they don't have the movie rights to. They still have the comics and merchandise rights to all of them.

Theme park rights are also messy, since (again, before Disney) Marvel leased the park rights east of the Mississippi to Universal for a very long time (99 years?). It includes the X-MEN and Avengers and all the big names. (Guardians of the Galaxy was not a big name so that's why they can use that in Epcot.). West coast wasn't part of the deal so Disney can do whatever they want there. Same with the ships. It's also supposedly why when they've done the Monorail wraps in WDW promoting the Avengers and other Marvel movies, they put it on the MK loop, which doesn't actually go into the parks, and not on the Epcot loop, which goes through the park.

All clear, isn't it?? :)

Ps -- I can't wait to take the pics with Cap and Thor, too!
