We are staying at the Poly this May and haven't stayed there since 2001 and have never eaten ate at Capt. Cook's. I saw their menu and it does look enticing BUT...

I read somewhere that everything is done by a digital ordering screen and folks found it confusing:confused3. Not sure what that means...

Also, OTHER THAN a Dole Whip what are some of the bakery snacks you can get with the DDP? I read somewhere they do have cakes etc but didn't see these on the confirmed snack thread...

Thanks so much!:flower3:

We used the touch screen the last time we ate there with no problems. They have a bakery case with cupcakes, pastires, muffins, etc. and I'm pretty sure all of those are DDP snacks. They also have small packets of fruit (like apple dippers with carmel sauce) in the cold case and an ice cream case.

So the screen was really just for ordering your items and then the cashier/workers gather them and you pick them up...;)

The touch screen menus were incredibly easy to use. Let's say you wanted to order cheese flatbread, you use the touch screen menu to place your order, if you want anything else you add it then and proceed to the cashier. When your food is ready you simply pick it up at a window. Very easy. And the food was very good! :goodvibes

Screen is easy, it prints out a slip, then you have to take the slip to the cashier first before your items are processed, then go and pick up your items when they are finished preparing them. Seems like extra steps for you but this must save Disney money with less cashiers I'm guessing.

Don't forget the Tonga Toast for breakfast can also be ordered at Capt'n Cooks

Let me dig deep in this cloudy memory of mine...

Snacks I remember them having when we stayed at the Poly a few years ago...
Muffins
Danish
Bagels
Mickey head rice krispy treats
Celery/Carrots and dip
Apples and caramel dip
side salad
Dole Whip
Ice cream - mickey heads, mickey ice cream sandwiches, fruit bars, maybe itzakadoozies?
Cookies (the big ones)
Brownies (the big iced ones)
Maybe cupcakes?
yogurt
single-size cereals
single pieces of fruit
cut up fruit

Ummm....I think that's all I can remember. Of course it could have changed since we stayed, but I'm sure it's similar to this list.

HTH

Oh, and I thought the screens were easy to use - a fine system.

Screens are super easy, and are really only for menu/cooked items. Bakery items and everything in the cold case are just grab and go. They have veggies, fruit, sushi, Smuckers Uncrustables and several other "quick" items in the cold case, along with tons of bottled drinks. If you want the Dole Whip the cashier gives you a dish when you pay.

We ate there quite a bit for lunch on our recent trip and everything was fresh and delicious. There were many options for snacks as the PP listed above. The Tonga Toast and Mickey waffles are great breakfast options and come with two drinks on the DDP. There was also bagels, pastries, cereal, yogurt and fruit. Lunch/dinner options were excellent with my favourites being the adult grilled cheese with asian slaw and the Polynesian chicken salad. I really liked that you could get fresh fruit or pineapple bowls for dessert. The ordering screens are very easy to use and there are lots of choices in the grab and go area.

We really liked Captain Cooks!

Great thread!

Does anyone know if I can get hot oatmeal at Captain Cook in the morning? Can you use a snack credit for it? What may be some other "healthy" breakfast options on a snack credit? Do they have fresh fruit salad in the morning in the fridge section? Any whole grain muffins/bagels/breads?

The only tricky part of ordering on the touch screen is if you want to modify or special request a way a meal is made. They don't tell you this, but if you do want to modify something and the option you want is not on the screen, you can just go to the cashier and he/she can enter the order the way you want it from there. They are quite accomodating with this.

They have fruit, yogurt and yes to whole grain baked goods. Healthy cereals too. It does seem like some of the options have been scaled down a bit.
Like the pp said, yes, you can get the package oatmeal and use the hot water. Not sure what type of credit it uses. My suggestion would be to bring your own package oatmeal from home and use it with the hot water available in the beverage area and save your snack credit to put a juice, or piece of fruit with it.

I was just looking at the menu on Allears... did "flatbread" take the place of "pizza"?

We were last there in 2008 and I could swear they had individual pizzas....maybe they have been renamed?

We were there in September 2007 and all they had were the flatbread pizzas. They're very good, though.

The pizzas you remember are the flatbreads on the menu.

Captain Cook's is a solid resort counter service restaurant and perfect for a quick breakfast before heading out to the parks or a late dinner after a long, tiring day.

Capt'n Cook's is one of our all-time favorite CS restaurants. We will usually make a special trip over to the Poly just to eat there at least once each trip. I love the pulled pork sandwich (those sweet potato chips are yummy!) and the flatbreads are tasty too!
