I know a lot of people signed up for the SWA CC to get the bonus miles. If you're interested, Capital One is advertising a deal where they match your existing miles on a rewards card up to 100K! Plus you get to get your original miles on your other card.

I have the Capital One Venture card which gives you 2% on everything and redeeming is super easy. You can use points for any travel category expense.

I posted this last week and no one even commented. It is a fantastic deal. The points can even be cashed for $1000. I am so glad I wired for this deal before applying. I had already decided it was a good card for me.

It is a good deal, if you have a travel credit card on which you spent $50,000 last year. There are far fewer people for whom this is true than last year's offer which was for those with 100,000 FF miles. -- Suzanne

Thanks for posting, I need to look into it. I got a Southwerst airlines card and not sure if they will match only the points I earned when I bought something ot ANY points I accrued even if it was a sign up bonus. Any ideas?

Jenn

They match 2 miles for 1 every dollar spent on a travel rewards credit card in 2011.

I saw the original posting about this and read an article about it...maybe the article was in the original post? But I still don't understand it. I even saw a commercial for it the other day but I'm lost. LOL

We have a Cap One card so we could switch to this card and then show them? or tell them the amount of miles we earned on our airtran card? And they will just give us double that amount?

We didn't spend anywhere near $50k on any CC but we did earn at least 3 credits on Airtran (I have to look up what that = in mileage) and it would be nice to just get those miles again for free.

The AirTran card is an example of the type of card they will use for the matching. It doesn't matter how many credits it earned, it is the amount on the year end statement of the dollars spent. If you spent $25,000 on the card in 2011 you would receive 50,000 miles/points on the new Venture card after you spend $1000 on the new card in the first 3 months.

The Capital One website has the information in a pretty clear (for a credit card) terms on the front page.

Within a few days of approval you get an email telling you to register for the offer. They miles are reserved for you after you send the documentation. You can fax or upload the PDF of the end of year statement for your other travel card. Like a Hilton AmEx or a US Airways VISA. They review it and then the miles you are eligible for if you spend the $1000 are set aside for you. They will stop the offer once they have "given away" their billion miles.

This card, though I am a very new user of it, seems great in terms of using rewards. You'll always earn 2 miles for every dollar you spend. And the miles can be cashed in for any travel related purpose and in any increment. If you spend $79 for a hotel room, you can shift 7900 miles online to "pay" for that charge. If your Vacation package at WDW is $1500, you can shift 150,000 miles and that is paid in full. You add 2 zeros to any travel purchase and that is the required miles to pay for it.

I have a couple of questions about this offer. We applied for and got the SW cc last year and spent enough to earn the 50K points. After that, we did not spend anymore on it. So, for this Capital One deal, would they only match the dollars we actually spent or the miles we earned (which would be high b/c of the 50K bonus).

Other question, we have a Chase Freedom card that we use for everything. Spending amounts on that would be much higher. It isn't a "travel" card but points can be redeemed for travel. This is from the Capitol One site:

Travel rewards cards include all credit cards that earn rewards that can be redeemed for travel purchases (flights, hotels, rental cars, etc.).

So, that sounds like you could use the Freedom card to have them match the money you spent on that, right??

Anyone know the answer to these questions? Thanks OP for posting this!

I'm wondering two things...first, if this program will work with my Citi Thank You card, which gives me points, but they are not travel-specific. Second, if I can just transfer from my current Capital One card over to this Venture Rewards card without having a hard pull on my credit. I just bought a card in December and can't afford any hard pulls right now. I read an article on Yahoo that stated it was possible to just switch Capital One cards without the credit check, but I'm not so sure. Guess I will have to call and ask.
