My DD7 was just recently diagnosed with a shellfish allergy. We found out the hard way this past weekend, and all is now well. We have Cape May booked for dinner on our trip next month. I need to know if the seafood part of the buffet is seperate from the other food items. Enough so that she would not be affected by the seafood at all??? I'm scrambling to make a back up plan now...I don't want to put her in danger so I think I just talked myself into my answer!

Your daughter's health is far more important than an opinion on an internet board. This is a pretty small buffet and I wouldn't trust her not picking up residue from the furnishings or buffet utensils.

You might want to get your backup plan and find another restaurant that will not run the risk of cross-contamination. Shellfish is pretty easy to avoid at Disney--except at places that specialize in it.

Try The Wave or the GF Cafe, or even Captain's Grille. You could probably get a table at Nine Dragons or Marrakesh too, or even the Biergarten.

Good Luck!

I did just go ahead and snag a Chefs de France ressie online. I don't want to put my baby in any danger!!!!!:scared1:

I have a shellfish allergy..a severe one. I eat at Cape May all the time. You just need to let Disney dining know in advance of the allergy. The chef is very good at working with you.

Why would anyone take a chance? I would eat some where else.

I also have a shellfish allergy, particularly bi-valves, and I eat at Cape May all the time. I cannot eat clams, scallops, mussels, or oysters. I can eat crab and lobster and shrimp. Usually the shellfish allergy has to do with actual ingesting of shellfish, not being near it. Things you might want to watch out for are ingredients in vitamin supplements, and and dyes used for medical procedures--although most of the dye nowadays does not contain iodine, some does, so let all healthcare workers know that if your child ever needs that type of test. I had a 50 year old uncle who was sent for a routine kidney xray and died from reaction to the dye. We were all notified by letter from the Hospital that as blood relatives we needed to be tested for allergies to shellfish.

Hubby is allergic to shell fish. Very. And we always tell them when we make the ADR and when we get there. The chef comes out and confrims what he can and cannot have. NO problems tell them. They will make sure all is well!
