Cape May Clambake--Anyone Tried It?

I believe crab legs use to be on the menu for an additional charge. Is this still the case, or have they totally removed crab legs from the menu? Thanks for your help.

We ate breakfast here on Thanksgiving morning in 2005. I love the atmosphere but we found the food not so great. The only egg dish was scrambled eggs and it had Pepperoni in it!!!!! I couldn't believe it!! I tried to pick it out but the eggs tasted like Pepperoni(sp.). I was just shocked that the only choice of eggs, a few different serving trays of them on each side of the buffet had somehting like that in it for breakfast. I found the selection really poor and the taste of the food was not that tasty! Even the dansh and donuts and pastries were nothing like Chef Mickey's breakfast.

Oh I believe you hit it on an off day. We eat breakfast there every trip and I have never once seen pepperoni in the eggs. I hate pepperoni so I would have noticed. We always have a great breakfast there and the doughnuts are from Krispy Kreme! My favorite!

We've tried dinner twice now and that was our limit. We won't be going back. The food just isn't very good and service was terrible.

We are staying at the BCV in November with the DDP and I thought the Cape May clambake sounded really convenient. Is it good? We are New Englanders and have pretty high standards when it comes to beachside clambakes!

It was good years ago, but for the past few years it's been HORRIBLE!!! I am also including their buffet breakfast. The quality of the food has declined. There are plenty of other excellent restaurants in WDW, just stay away from Cape May.

I think the problem is that it should not be called a clambake. It sets people up for disappointment. I am just minutes from the Chesapeake Bay and I think the seafood at Cape May is tasty although it is very limited. And actually the steamed shrimp are no longer served hot. They are on the cold salad side of the buffet. That all being said I LOVE the place. I love it soooo much we ate there twice on our trip last week. The beef and ribs are delicious. I have been about ten or so times now and I have to say I like it much more than Boma or Crystal Palace.

It is not as good as it once was, but is still just fine. We had good service there last Sept. and expect to eat there again next Sept. I am from Maryland and I don't think the local MD seafood (apart from fresh out of the Bay crab) is that great.

but not anymore....the food is ok, fried fish was mostly batter. but the biggest complaint is if you hit it at the wrong time, you stand in line forever! plus the line is split...I had my shrimp on my plate, then down to stand in line for the beef, then get in another line for my potatoes. it was just ridiculous.

service was fine, but I'll probably skip it next time.

We are trying the clam bake this coming August....I'm married to a native New Englander & have an elder son who, if it swims, there's a good chance he'll want to eat it. ;)

That said, I have another son with a seafood allergy and this seemed the best opportunity to feel like we're at a seafood place but still have enough choices for middle son.

It appeared to be okay to us - somewhere between Red Lobster & Bubba Gump's :rotfl:

DH and I enjoy some seafood, we are not seafood snobs by FAR and this food still wasn't good enough for us. You are much better off at Crystal Palace, 'Ohana, Boma or any of the other buffets, or as some others mentioned Spoodles which is a short walk from BC. And as far as the non-seafood options go, as DB put it, "I'm a bit of a 'rib snob' but these are pretty sub-par." :rotfl2:

It is so funny how different people like different buffets. I do not say this is the same as a real clambake but the buffet is WAY better than Chef Mickeys or 1900 Park Fare IMHO.:goodvibes

Your last sentance gives you your answer. While the clam bake is good, to you it would be the same as eating at a Red Lobster.

Or less. The night we ate there DW compared it to a Ryan's Steakhouse--as steakhouse seafood buffets goes, that's pretty average. Plus we had the longest wait to be seated at any of our TS meals that week, the lines for the food were long and they couldn't keep it stocked with seafood items.

Maybe I'd try it I were staying there, but we wouldn't go out of our way to try it again. We didn't dig it.

We are trying Cape May for the first time this July. We are doing it on our last full day at WDW. DH is excited, and I'm hoping for good results.

Hands down, the worst meal we've ever had on WDW property. DS who normally eats anything resembling food, could not find a thing, nor did we that we liked.:sad2:

I was disappointed in this meal. I am not easily disappointed by food. The steamers were all shrunk up in the shells from overcooking, as were the mussels. The shrimp were limp. The desserts were glorified cookies. C'mon, Oreo bonbons???? Seriously????

The server I had was very stressed, too. I've done other buffets, and have never seen a server so overburdened as the one I had at Cape May. May have been a bad moment, a bad day...we all have them.

I have heard they may be adding some new additions to their buffet, I will be curious to hear from those who will be trying the Cape May Buffet in the future.

I would be interesting in hearing about anything new. We crossed them off our list in May after our last visit. Once the hot steamed shrimp went away, they lost me. It's about the only seafood I eat, so the stuff left I can get anywhere. I agree, it was better before, so hopefully there may be some menu changes.

Yikes! I made an ADR for this place & all these bad reviews seriously have me thinking about canceling. We are from Cape Cod as well, and while of course I wasn't expecting anything near as fresh, I wasn't expecting worse than Red Lobster! :( Hopefully it isn't too late to put in reservations somewhere else.

Michellekl, please try not to let reviews sway you...I feel that everyone has their own opinion...I had heard such bad things about Tony's and I personally liked it...then i heard rave things about WCC and I hated it...so to each his own...
If you have ADR's and feel like the buffet items are things you'd enjoy I'd keep it on your list and try it out...if there is somewhere else that you've been eyeing that you can trade it with then switch...But based on reviews--hmm I'm not so sure about canceling...
Put it this way---like another poster said , it was my LONGEST wait after check in--over 45 minutes! That is because they were SO busy--and busy to me usually means a good place ;)

I appreciate the reviews from past diners but then take the comments & feel more prepared when I walk into a restaurant. We're going to stick with our ADR :thumbsup2 (In large part because we are staying at the Beach Club and this is our check in evening....) but now I won't be completely shocked if the clams don't taste like they were just pulled out of the ocean (and I will be equally thrilled if I'm in love with the place :) )
