I went to Cape May Cafe for the first time this past July. I am a big seafood person and absolutely loved every second of it! :thumbsup2 Ask a few select DISers how many crab legs I put away. :rotfl:

I was disappointed when Pete did not find it a good meal. I then remembered he isn't a seafood person. Kevin's review was spot on in terms of it being excellent. The only things I did not care for were the tortellini with lobster sauce and mashed potatoes (which had a weird pesto thing going on).

I can't wait to go back and am trying desperately to fit it in during my December trip. :)

I have a reservation for two for Saturday, December 11, if anyone would like to join me before the pre-cruise meet.

I am somewhere between wanting to eat as many crab legs as Nikki ate and Kevin (or was it John?) thinking they are too much work.

And how many crab legs did Nikki eat?
I am pretty sure I could eat more than three. In addition to shrimp, mussels, some meat, salad and other vegetables. And still have room left for dessert.

A question about the rotation of fried food - shrimp, calimari, etc.
Is the rotation throughout the night or a different fried food each night? I'd be unhappy if I was there for calimari instead of shrimp!

I deleted my response as I had mis-read what you posted.

The fried seafood rotates nightly...not during the course of a single night.

(I was listening to the show last night when I was half asleep in the hospital room next to my guy after his eye surgery. Do not remember then show exactly)

Someone said that breaking open and eating crab legs was too much work (if I remember correctly). I am hoping for good crackers that crack the shell easily and crab meat that is steamed correctly so it slides out easily. And plenty of melted butter!

Do diners get plastic bibs to catch the splatter or are crabs not similar to lobster in that way?

I already made the reservation. I was a little nervous when I heard that Cape May was being reviewed. I am very happy it got a good review, even though some other members of the team did not love it. I am looking forward to my dinner there.

I don't do seafood, but my sister and mom LOVE crab legs, I have never understood why anyone wants to do all that work to eat? Once my sister was cracking a leg and crab juice flew out and hit her in the face. Give me a nice filet mignon any day. ::yes:: I love Cape May, but will stick with their breakfast. :teeth:

We were there the same night as Pete (an hour or so later) and thought it was ok but then I'm not a seafood fan either. I guess we'd been spoilt from the, IMO, better Boma the night before.

Plus they took our crayons when we were up at the buffet so we couldn't draw on the table any more ;)

:goodvibes

Nikki......

I am willing to take on that challenge.

Of course it has to be REAL crabs, and not that stuff you always find in Chinese Buffets. :rotfl2:

My wife and I canceled a Flying Fish reservation for our November trip so that we could try out Cape May Cafe, based on the glowing review. And, of course, the fact that we could probably buy into DVC with the money saved :rotfl:

We were just at Flying Fish in July, so don't think we're too insane for doing this. We know it won't be the same kind of experience, but it sounds very good.

You might lose an eye. I'm messy at cracking those legs. At one point during dinner in July, I cracked and a piece flew two tables down and hit somebody. It was quite comical. Not to mention anyone at my table sitting next to me was using plates as shields. :rotfl:

One night at the local Red Lobster my wife got hit in the head by a flying crab claw. It was from the table across the room. The lady was a tad too vigourous in her cracking, and apologized to no end. Once the initial shick wore off, we found it rather hilarious.

To add to my DH's post - we *had* a Cape May reservation initially. Canceled it on the strength of Pete's comments and booked Yachtsman for our final night instead. Then we heard Kevin's review (granted, right before dinner and while we were very hungry, but still!) and were convinced enough to nix our first-night Flying Fish reservation in favor of Cape May. Must...stop...messing...with ADRs!

Going to Yachtsman for dinner tonight!!!!!!!

Woo Hoo.

Sure, rub it in Kevin. All I have left to cook for tghe kids and I tonight is Hamburger Helper.

Cousin Eddie: I don't know why they call this stuff hamburger helper. It does just fine by itself, huh? I like it better than tuna helper myself, don't you, Clark?
Clark: You're the gourmet around here, Eddie.
