Cape May Cafe or Captains Grill?

Opinions for family of 4, 2 teens...last night of vacation. Looks like other options at buffet available other than just seafood....most likely will be at HS that evening. Thanks!

We've never done Captains Grill, but Cape May does have lots to offer that is not seafood. The Yacht Club/Beach Club restaurants are a great choice for a DHS day. We usually do Cape May on our DHS Day and it is so easy to take the boat over.

Never eaten at Cape May, but I can say our meal at Captains Grill in April was one of the best we have ever had on property. Service was excellent as well.

FWIW, I just watched a Dis video last night where a couple guys said they found Captain's Grill to be the WORST food in ALL of WDW. I don't have any experience at either restaurant personally, although I've been wanting to try Cape May Cafe for years.

How about Beaches and Cream for a more relaxed atmosphere and to end the vacation with a sundae? Or Kimonos at the Swan for delicious Asian fare (and sushi if you are into this)?

My teenagers loved Captain's Grille. We all did. We would return any time we were in the Boardwalk area.

For me it comes down to Cape May being a buffet... I'll pass. Not a big fan of mass produced food for large quantities of people and sitting on buffet tables to be scooped up. I'm just of the opinion that there is no such thing as excellent buffet food. Cape May other than the average crab legs is just not worth it for me to even think about for dinner. There are only two buffets in WDW (dinner) that I rate as average and they are Boma and Biergarten. I myself personally like Captains Grill and think it's one of the nice hidden gems of Disney. We stumbled into this place several years ago when we stayed at the YC on our arrival night. We did not have an ADR and just walked up. I was very impressed. Is it one of my favorites? No. But if I'm not doing a signature restaurant (our favorite way to dine) and I'm at Hollywood Studios (which I will not eat in) I'll head on over to the Captains Grill and spend a few hours on the Boardwalk.

I've eaten at both Cape May and Captains Grill many times and have never had a bad meal. Cape May has items other than seafood but it's a pricey buffet...imo.

When are you going?
We LOVED Minnie's Holiday Dine at Hollywood and Vine... And it's in HS.
Our DGS (19 on that trip) thought it was the best meal at WDW. (Not our vote, but it was REALLY good) And the Fab 5 were a blast!
Also what about Big River Grille on the Boardwalk? Also excellent example!
We weren't crazy about Cape May, BUT, we are from New England, 5 minutes from the beach, soooo, not much seafood impresses us outside of home.
We're trying Captain's Grill this upcoming visit, so haven't formed an opinion yet...

We had a bad experience at Captain's Grille in May (poor service, lousy food), so I cannot recommend it. Have you thought about Trattoria on the Boardwalk? We had a fantastic meal there!

I'm not sure how Captain's Grille has received such a bad rep. It's one of my family's favorite restaurants with a variety of menu options, and we've never had bad service.

If you're already going to be in HS, why not try the 50s Prime Time Cafe? It's also on my family's "must do" list.

We love both places and go to both every visit. We all get the steak and it is delicious (you can cut it with a fork it's so tender). It's the same meat served at the Yatchsman (told this by the waitress we had one year). But, if you're a fan of seafood, I'd chose Cape May. We've never had a bad meal at either.

I ended up with Captains Grille but wasn't crazy about their menu...it all looks good but I wanted more of a fun and casual atmosphere our last night with sundaes for dessert...and today an opening for 50s Prime Time Cafe opened up! I took it!!! Never ate there but heard the food was good and of course we can end our trip with ice cream sundaes before the fireworks. (Hopefully they will still be doing the Star Wars fireworks in August) Thanks everyone!

Sounds like a great plan!
