Cape May Cafe - Do we Dare?

I ate there with my seafood-hating friend over MLK weekend. She LOVED the carving station (flank steak?) and the mashed potatoes.
I thought the clams were good, but they were way too much hassle to eat, it seems as if 80% of the clam shells were empty, no exaggeration! Even the waitress commented "Oh did you seem to find any clams?" The shrimp were the peel and eat variety, with the crab boil type seasoning on them as well as the shell and all the little leg type things on the inside of the shrimp, so they were kind of hard to eat too. The ribs were very fatty and dry, and I got them from a tray that was just being put out. The mac & cheese on the kids buffet was very watery and icky for lack of a better word. They also no longer have the fried shrimp on the kids buffet, only fried fish nuggets.
They did have some pretty good desserts; I've been there 3 times now, and the last 2 they've had this great chocolate dessert that's piled on top of an oreo and has cookies & cream mousse, delicious. But they haven't had the yummy mini key lime pie tartlets that they had on my 1st trip...
We did have an early seating, 5:45 I believe. So I'm not sure if the early and fresh theory applies, at least not on this night.
The 1st time I went (Dec 99) was by far the best, but now I'm beginning to wonder if it's because it was our very first night in WDW on our first adult trip (my boyfriend and me).
I did enjoy the character breakfast buffet, they had the most delicious sticky bun thing in a hot skillet, yum! And the character interaction was great, even for 2 adults.
