Cape may cafe clam bake

this buffet was killer. :cool2: maybe it was just because our entire family was absolutely starving at the time, but we really enjoyed this buffet.

We were just there on 2/21 and it was fantastic! The best meal of our trip!

Aside from the steamed clams and mussels (tasty, but small), the BBQ baby back ribs were awesome. So was the grilled sirloin roast. I loved the salads. The Caesar salad was fabulous and so was the "citrus salad" which contained radicchio, sliced almonds, sun-dried cranberries and was dressed with fresh-tasting orange juice.

The desserts were wonderful, especially those Oreo Bon-Bons and the key lime tarts.

We loved it! (BTW, we absolutely hated Boma's when we tried it 5 years ago. I guess all these places can be hit or miss.)

I love reading all these restaurant reviews. I like to hear what people have to say about places I've been to and liked and places I hated and others loved. I think its really a matter of personal taste. I'd never change/cancel an ADR because someone didn't care for the food. I would probably only change a reservation if I read multiple reports of a restaurant being dirty.

ROAD TRIP!!! Let's go get some of those Oreo Bon-bons - who's with me?

WHEN CAN WE LEAVE??!?! :rotfl: Those Oreo Bon-bons are worth the price of the buffet alone!

We enjoy this buffet all for different reasons:
DH LOVES the ribs, he always wants to dine here for those ribs.
I really enjoy the roasted chicken, it was juicy and full of yummy flavor.
DD5 LOVES LOVES LOVES the garlic butter clams. Seriously I don't think DD ever eats as much as she does here. She went through THREE bowls of clams. And some shrimp and fish too. Usually a half hotdog or a half filet of fish will do for her!
This last time my Mother-in-law, she hardly eats as well, downed a few bowls of clams and mussels.

The sides and salads have had slight variations every time we've gone. Always, something good and tasty though!

We've been there twice and thought the food quality and service stunk twice (the Oreo bon bons were the only thing I enjoyed!). MANY better options at WDW. We won't be returning unless absolutely desperate.

I think it depends on what your standards for clams, mussels and shrimp are. The shrimp were mealy, the clams and mussels overdone and chewy. (and we were there pretty early in the night) I was really expecting to like Cape May but it was just ok at best.

I'm allergic to shellfish and they didn't do a good job of replenishing non-shellfish dishes when we dined there in October, 2006. I know, strange selection for someone with shellfish allergies, but my friend loves shellfish, so it was a treat for her.

Very limited non-shellfish selection (fish/meat/poultry). I ended up with a tiny bit of some kind of beef (it had been sitting a while), and mostly veggies and a few selections from the children's section. I think there was supposed to be salmon, but it was MIA during our visit.

Such are the joys of friendship! *LOL*

i agree with this. average at best. dessert bar was definitly lacking in choices

Question:

Did you head back toward the check-in area where the signature desserts were?

The oreo bon bons (found out there, along with some other selections) are to die for.

The "regular" dessert bar was, we thought, limited and hard to get to, too.

We also had a major complaint about "empties"...that is, taking clams and mussels from the pots, back to the table, only to find that many of the shells were empty. THAT was a pain, since it took a few trips for us to get our fill, because there were so few "fulls" for each trip.

That being said, we thought the food was good and the service was likewise good.

We have been twice and loved it both times.

Kids made me change ADR's to go back for our upcoming Easter trip. They love the Oreo Bon Bons. :thumbsup2

We went on our last trip and I didn't think it was anything to rave about. Just normal tasting food. Alright desserts but nothing better than I got anywhere else. It was just OK..we won't go back

It was just alright for us. We dont plan on going back.
