Hello all my DD is going to cape cod for the week and wanted to know what wonderful advice my friends can give her from the disboards. Entertainment/ Food/ outdoor activities. She already has a place to stay with car. Thanks,:thumbsup2

I liked the whale watch too but it was cold out there on the water. I also have to have a lobster each and every time I go.:goodvibes

The previous posters pretty much covered it other than beaches and of course Christmas Tree Shops. Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard are very quaint and might be a nice day trip. Having vacationed there much of my life I can tell you WDW it ain't.

Arnold's Lobster and Clam Bar on Route 6 in Eastham. Best fried clams on the Cape!!

definitely a stop in Provincetown for some shopping & people watching!

otherwise, we're all about eating seafood & sitting on beaches around these parts. Not a whole lot else to do, for better or worse.

where is she staying? what part of the cape?

I'll second that but I like their fried shrimp even better :thumbsup2

I miss the Cape, we haven't been there in years.

Visit Provincetown lots of great shops and Whale Watching, National Seashore absolutely gorgeous beaches, Chatham gorgeous town all around beautiful architecture and scenic ocean views, Martha's Vineyard bicycle around the island and a nice drive along route 6A lots of little antique and gift shops and absolutely beautiful scenery.....Hyannis isn't bad but it is the "city" of the the Cape I call it that because that is where you will find the majority of the night life and "big chain" stores as there is a mall there, Having said that the center of Hyannis is beautifully laid out with plenty of shops and restaurants and a gorgeous harbor area, also I believe there is a duck boat tour out of Hyannis as well...For museums hit up Sandwich for the Glass Museum and Heritage Museum... Other than that the Cape is what it is shops, restaurants, scenery and beaches...

Perfect she will be right dab in the middle of Cape Cod...That is a perfect jumping off point....I also forgot to mention there is this awesome Drive-in Theater in Wellfleet which is a great experience if she has never been to one....

Is she up to going to Plymouth to see the Mayflower and Plymouth Plantaion?

Hit the National Seashore for one day, my favorite is Coast Guard Beach. The waves are big and oh so fun, especially if she brings a boogie board.

You can also get a permit to have a camp fire here--so fun!

Also, the bike trails are GREAT...craft fairs and band concerts everywhere...just driving around is fun too! Oh and mini-golf, go-karts, trampolines--and Boston is about an hour away!

Guess it depends on her age but in general: Provincetown for a day trip, stop at the National Seashore for an hour or two of beaching, happy hour at the Beachcomber in Wellfleet and top it off with the drive-in:) That's one day. If she's in her twenties, there are a few good happy hours, Jimmy Plunkett in Dennisport, Pufferbellies in Hyannis... Chatham is a fun town to walk around and do some shopping, as is Mashpee Commons. Personally, I wouldn't waste any time in Hyannis unless maybe a walk down Ocean Street to the marina, maybe lunch on the water down there at Spankys or Tugboats. Again, if I knew her age I could direct you better but these are some good ideas:)

And the onion rings are to die for.

In any case, if she is staying in Hyannis, it will take her over an hour to get to Eastham, about another 20 mins to Wellfleet and a total of 90+ mins to get to P-Town. It is along drive from Hyannis to P-Town...we've done it many times. Depending on the time of day, the traffic can be a bear.
So...with that in mind....she could head down to Eastham and check out the Natl Seashore. It will cost her to park at a beach parking lot and then you have to take the shuttle over to the beach...at least in Eastham.
There are so many places to just stop and wander around at ...the Visitor Center, right on Rt. 6 in Eastham is a lot of fun. Then you can walk the walking trails.
If she enjoys walking in the out of doors, tell her to head to the Audobon Center in Wellfleet..it is a bit past the drive-in, on the left down a little street.
The trails are wonderful and very scenic. You get to walk out to the water in places.
There is a huge flea market at the drivein on the weekends...that's fun.
And be sure to checkout the various lighthouses....they are beautiful.
There is Sandwich Plantation is Sandwich, not that far from Hyannis. Tugboats is a good spot for lunch on the water.

She is 23, Pufferbellies sounds good they wanted to be able to walk home or take a cab if they went to a bar in town.

metalis4ever- what a lovely day you planned.
goofy4tink- great advice.

I have never been to Cape Cod - it is on my list of things to do so when she asked me where to go I told her I always wanted to go to Cape Cod, Now I want to go even more. LOL I hope she takes nice pictures.

They were thinking of bike riding in Cape Cod, any advice on that? They don't want to spend the money on the ferry, You know poor college student and all.

Thanks keep the advice coming.

As far as downtown Hyannis goes if they are staying at a hotel in the downtown/center of town then there are plenty of great bars and restaurants within walking distance..Before I met my DW I used to go to the bars down there all the time especially this time of year being that your DD is 23 she is going to have a blast!!!

As far as biking goes there are plenty of options without having to pay for a ferry ride to MV...The Cape Cod Rail Trail for example is a paved path that starts in Dennis and goes all the way up to Wellfleet..I personally have never had the stamina to make the 27 mile trip (that's one way lol) but I have taken the beautiful ride from Dennis to Nickerson State Park which is a great ride..If they bring a picnic there is this beautiful pond right off of the bike trail where they can stop for lunch enjoy the scenery and turn around and head back..I believe that they may be able to rent bikes in Hyannis but I have never done so nor have I seen any designated bike trails...If they do decide to do the Cape Cod Rail trail make sure to tell them to stop at an Info center or Chamber of commerce there are some great coupons for rentals...

What air port are they flying in to? If it is Logan (Boston) and they are traveling down Route 3 there is an information center off of exit 5 on route 3 that has a beautifully hand carved wooden Native American statue that is 1 of 9 in all of North America..besides the statue there is some great info..it used to be nicer before they tore the old building down and built one of those McDonalds/rest area type places (sorry I am biased I worked there as a teenager lol) Otherwise in Hyannis proper on Route 132 which is the main road that leads to the center of town there is an information center/ CoC on the right hand side about 2-3 miles off of the exit...There are plenty of coupons within the various guide books that will save a dollar here and there which is very important on a college student's budget :)
