DH and I are thinking about taking a last minute trip to Cape Cod this weekend to go whale watching. Neither of us have ever been so I have a few questions:

Any hotel/motel recommendations?
Any whale watch recommendations?
Do you think we will be able to get reservations this late?

Any other tips/comments/suggestions are appreciated!!!

Thanks!!!

My brother who is a marine mechanic and works on a lot of the whale watch boats in Boston and on the Cape say that the Provincetown boats are having GREAT sightings this year. There are lots of whales around, and they are nice and close to land, so there is less 'travel time' to get to the whales.

I've never whalewatched from the Cape, we have done trips out of Boston and have always loved it. The New England Aquarium has boats, and Boston Harbor Cruises as well.

Sorry I am no help whatsoever on hotels, etc.

Good Luck!!!!

There are many vacancies at the Cape this summer (must be the economy?). We were able to land a nice rental for next week. A few houses from the beach/nice place. Usually this would have to be booked in Jan. or Feb. but we found it 2 weeks ago. There are tons on Motels along Rte. 28 which runs down most of the Cape. I'm sure you could even find openings in some of the places on the water, too. It just depends on how much you're willing to spend. If money's not an issue, try the Chatham Bars Inn or Ocean Edge. If you're happy with basic, clean accomodations, then I'm sure you'd be able to find a place along 28.

The best whale watches leave from Provincetown (the very tip of the Cape). You can go right to the pier and buy tickets. Provincetown is funky - be prepared to see ALL kinds of people there - but it is so beautiful there with all the sand dunes. Try to get to Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket if you've never been. It's worth the trip.

Try: http://www.capeguide.com/ Good luck - maybe we'll bump into you on a whale watch.

Thanks so much to both of you!!! I'm so excited!!!! We booked the Dolphin Fleet Whale Watch in Provincetown for Sunday. We will probably wing it with the hotel on Saturday night.

Oh, have a great time!!!!! The weather is supposed to be really nice. I'm so jealous. I live an hour from both bridges to the Cape, and have not made it over once this year!!!!!
