Has anyone been to CApe Canaveral or the space center? How far is it from Disney? Will my kids (6,6 and 7) years old like it? We are staying off site in Orlando and my husband would like to go- and I would like to try since the other 6 days are all theme parks!
Thanks for any tips!

We visited KSC this past June. DH has always wanted to go there. My son (12) loves science, so he enjoyed it. They really enjoyed the visit to the Astronaut Hall of Fame (right outside the KSC complex). They had a couple of simulator rides there.

We bought the passes that allow you admission to pretty much everything. We enjoyed the bus tour a lot more than I thought we would. I had heard that it is a long ride and very boring...but we didn't find that to be true at all. The bus only travels short distances between stops. At each stop, there is a movie, museum, or exhibit for you to visit.

The only thing we were disappointed in was the food. It was not very good and the prices were higher than WDW. You are at their mercy because you are not allowed to bring anything into KSC and you are miles from anywhere else to eat.

It only took us about an hour to get there from Orlando. The roads are well marked and it is very easy to find your way. Be sure you have lots of change for the tolls and be sure you have enough gas. A lot of the trip is through a wild marshy area and there are no exits for miles.

KSC is a very fun and informative place to visit. I agree about the food, its not good and remember the tolls!

we went there last year and it was great! Hubby has been space mad since he was little and had been looking forward to it for 20 years or so, so he had a huge smile on his face all day. Definately worth a visit!!!

Consider the 12 month pass depending on how long you are there for or visiting again within the year. Costs $37 for max pass. Only an extra $11 for 12 month pass ($48).
We went Oct and couldn't get round it all in the day so going back again next Aug when we are there for 25 nights, might even visit twice.

we got there late because it was rainy, and everything is timed, so some of the fun stuff we missed, and they were full so they roped them off, the tour on the bus took longer than we thought, when you goto leave there is someone there to help with directions and we asked about a buffet like ponderosa and she showed us how to get there i think it was ollies very good buffets, with steak and southern food, and a walmart across the street,we picked up some supplies, easy drive except for the alligators on the side of the road...i was praying we didn't break down .oh and we took a wrong turn and ended up in the restricted area and they didn't play, he walked up to my rental with a automatic gun...and checked my id..

I went to Kennedy Space Center in September. My bf came with me and we do not have any children. It was an interesting day and I'm glad that I went. We were there for seven hours, but I was ready to leave after five and a half hours. I agree with previous posters about the mediocre and expensive food.

What made the trip enjoyable was having some background knowledge of the space program. If I was going to visit KSC with children, I would definitely teach them a bit about the history of the space program before going. I think that would contribute to their enjoyment of the trip immensely.

We went as part of a guided tour run by Gator Tours, which unfortunately I cannot recommend due to their shabby buses and chaotic morning pick up regimen.

thanks for all the responses- I may try to wait a year or two on this since it seems better for older kids. Thanks again-

We will be at KSC Sat. Dec. 17th before our cruise. Anyone know what the weather around that time will be? Don't know what to pack - jeans, shorts, light jacket? How much time is spent indoors vs. outdoors?
