We're prepared for capacity on Xmas Day, but what about the Monday after? Any thoughts?

Thanks :)

Close, basically any day from now (well, the current rain (and yes, it is rain fairly steady in Anaheim right now (8 AM on the 22nd) and January 3rd can hit capacity. And the "locals" that decided to not go to the parks due to the current rain, well, if they come next week instead, watch out!!!

Yeah, we are getting dumped on here too in west Los Angeles. I doubt that will help us. OK, thanks for the insight. It's really a gamble at this time of year and anybody's guess. I suppose.

For experience, we have been at Disneyland for Dec 24-Jan2 every year for almost 20 years. To me, Dec 26th is always worse than Christmas Day. It is the day they introduce the Rose Bowl teams at Disneyland.

General rule of thumb is be ready for capacity Dec 25-Jan1 no matter what day of the week it is, if the days leading directly up to or directly after Xmas/New Years are weekends be ready then too.

Yes, it is hard to predict, you have the Rose Bowl Bands that will start to perform through the 5th, which always bring in their supporters, Media Day for the players, and when do the Penn State fans start to show up. (USC will impact the tourism impact as getting to play close to home). But they still have a lot of Alumni that will come for the game from out of town.

So weather, when will the tourists show up, and what else will they be doing? Do they opt to do something before the game and parade, or after? And it seems each year they do something different than last year.....

So yes, it is a gamble....

Is it typically the hardest tier of closure where they lock it down to anyone with a pulse, or a softer tier?

Well, there is a good chance for a softer tier closing every day, but any day can become a lock it down day.

But most expect Christmas Day and New Year's Eve to be a lock it down day.

And January 1st will be busier than normal in 2017, since the Rose Bowl won't be held on a Sunday, so it will be Monday the 2nd. Also, while many students will get off until Monday the 9th,some folks will go back to work/school on the 3rd, as the second is a Federal Holiday,,,,

So while historical data is very helpful, things also change every year.....

Remember, with the exception of NYE, even hard closures will lift. It may close at 1pm, but will likely lift after the parade.
Wow- that's an awesome tradition!
Thank you! We started when kids were young, and now they are in their late 20s, and we have kept it up. Just arrived last night!

We will be breaking it next year, as friends have talked us into WDW for the WDW races after New Years, but the kids still want to do part of the time at DIsneyland.

This is interesting - they didn't go to Tier 5 last year, at least.

But with the ROA attractions down, I wonder what that does to their allowable capacity.Seems the boats and island combined would be good for a few hundred max, so hopefully the capacity doesn't go down dramatically (or goes down dramatically, depending on your POV).

I have also seen other posts in the past that indicate Tier 5 closures on XMas Day in the past. I have a fuzzy feeling about Sunday, because the economy has been on an uptick.

I've noticed there is still availability at both DL and GC hotels. Kind of surprised they are not booked? Might that not indicate fewer out of Towners?

Can someone explain tier closing?

I believe Anaheim is a VERY local-dependent market. I think on holidays, you can see huge crowds without the DL hotels selling out.

Stolen from iceskatejen in an ancient thread:

Level 1--they stop selling tickets (meaning anyone who already has a ticket can still get in).

Level 2--No new entries (this applies only to non-DL Hotel guests and non--AP holders)

Level 3--DL hotel guests and AP holders who haven't been in the park already that day can't get in.

Level 4--No re-entries.

(Edited to correct Tiers)

Hotel guests don't get special priority, it's all based on ticket type. They restrict which entrance non-hotels guests can use, but that's it.

There are many more tiers than that, as they now treat the two parks separately, and you could be able to buy tickets to DCA but not Disneyland.

Also they can sell multi-day tickets but not single day tickets.

Sometimes the gates are shut down for logistics reasons and not Fire Marshall numbers, such as parade time at Disneyland, they will close the gates when the parade is on Main Street and Town Square, just to not clog up the pathways and parade, even with the backstage paths open.

And a hard close (at Fire Marshal capacity, or they say to close it down due to what they see), nobody gets in, they don't crae if you are big Disney VIP, you won't get in until enough people leave the park. Once the numbers get low enough, then Disney can priorities who gets let in, so you start with VIP 's and Club 33 folks, then you can look at Disney Hotel Guests and those returning that left earlier that day, and then let folks with admission media into the park for the first time.

So after a parade or the fireworks is a popular time for guests to leave, if they are going to let folks back into the park after a hard close, that is the most likely time.

You're right, TouringPlans shows 4 tiers, not 5, and if you combine 3 and 4 on what I pasted in, that would line up with TP's description.

According to the VP of Maingate operations, the tiers are as follows...

Level 1 - All open

Level 2--they stop selling 1 day tickets
Level 3--Stop sales of multiday tix (they always sell APs)
Level 4--Stop new entries
Level 5--No re-entries.

Within those, there are variances. (ie VIP tours, Club 33)
