Capacity crowds week of NYE....

We’ve been to DLR 6 or 7 times in the past 8 years but this will be our first holiday-time visit. We booked 12/30 - 1/5 at GCH, rationalizing the extra days by thinking we could take it slow, sleep in when we wanted to, etc. But reading other threads, I’m now a little worried that might not be the best plan. We realized that week would be crazy busy when we booked. Am I right to be concerned that sleeping in and getting to the parks later in the morning might not be the best plan?

Most commonly, hitting capacity will happen in the afternoon. So, sleeping in won't likely mean you won't be able to get into the parks. However, it will mean that you aren't at the parks during the most quiet time at the parks--the early mornings when everyone else is sleeping in.

You actually May miss the more super duper crazy days. Last year the capacity days were dec 27,28,29th. And Christmas is at the beginning of the week this year..

That being said we were there the 27,28,29 so if you are worried about big crowds here are my thoughts..

Forget the sleeping in. Those mornings made our trips. It didn’t feel like capacity until after lunch and then is felt suffocating at times. You will also get better maxpass return times if you start early. Take an afternoon break and you can book fast passes from your hotel. If your worried about not being able to get back in, there are different levels of closure. The first is not readmitting new guests so if you were in earlier you’ll be fine, the next is only letting those in with reservations. Our dinner reservations saved us one night and got us back in.

Oh and since your staying on site I really really wouldn’t waste your early entry to DCA.

Just be aware that DL and DCA can be much more crowded than normal, with the excitement at that time of year. Hope you enjoy the trip though
