Can't stop crying...lost my SD memory card...

Oh, I feel for you so much! This is a biiiiggg fear of mine, to the point that I back up all my photos to 2 discs and keep one at home and one at work because I am scared of my house burning down and losing all my photos! I know, I'm wierd. When we go on vacation I usually take my laptop so I can download my photos each night.

I don't know anyone who hasn't lost photos, either left a camera somewhere (we left a videocamera with our whole Italy trip on our car & drove off!) or lost them in a flood or fire, etc.

It is sad, very sad. But like eveyone else said, you'll remember those times. And chalk it up to experience. Dh & I now take our laptop on all family trips & upload photos every night (or every other) so we're only ever out 1 days worth if we lose a camera. We also have a huge external hard drive that we put all photos on. I recently even started putting my parent's photos on it just in case (they flooded a few years back so I'm scared.)

You AREN"T ALONE!!!!

I really hope you find your card.

I had an experience like this. I am weird about not re-using my SD cards (I find them really cheap on sale and will put the full ones in the safe dep. box).

Anyway, I had taken my camera with two cards almost full of Disney pictures to my daughter's dance competition. I had uploaded these pictures into one computer. I also had several other pictures of DD at dance, etc.

Anyway, my DH left camera in auditorium. We called THREE days later when we realized it was missing and he stopped back by on the way home from a meeting. Nowhere to be found. I was devastated. No SD cards, no camera, no camera battery, no bag, no charger. At least $350.00 worth and irreplacable pictures. I cried a lot about it.

Anyway, my one of my DD teacher's came up to me and said I just feel you will get your camera back. (This is in March).

In November, I get a phone call from our Dance Studio. The Dance Comeptition company had my camera and had finally tracked us down. Apparently, when it was turned in, they did not label it with a city, so he did not know which city in the whole US it came from. My son happened to have a shirt for our small Catholic school on and they finally traced it to us and I got it all back. I was overwhelmed. Needless to say, sometimes lost things find a way of making it back.

I hope you find yours. Don't think about it for awhile and maybe it will just turn up.

Sometimes I pray for help in finding missing items and when I do that and calm down and relax, I almost always find it.

GOOD LUCK!!!

Okay, now I'm off to get my super-fine sharpie and write my email addy on my SD card!

I really hope you find your card!

Although my situtaion was a little different, the devastation was the same. This was about 8-9 years ago and it was my very first trip to Disney World. I was not able to be fortunate as a child to go so, this was my childhood trip, just as an adult. :-) It was pre-digital era and I was so excited, I took pics of everything. 8 rolls of film in fact, lol. Came home and rushed up to the store to have them developed. 2 days later, almost as giddy as I was in the World, ran back up to the store to relive my memories. Much to my shock ALL 8 rolls of film, were black, every picture. Apparently I expierienced a defect in the shutter system and the camera was at fault. I was devastated. I was, howeber, able to move on. It gave me a great excuse to have to go back to take more pics, ahh shucks. lol

If anyone has accidentally deleted or reformatted their pictures on their memory card, you can buy a program online and download it to your computer called card recovery. I accidentally deleted all of my pictures from Niagara falls this summer off of my camera. I was devastated. But the program recovered all of my pictures! I think the program was about $40, but it was worth it to get all those memories back. As long as you haven't filled the memory card completely up again, you should be able to get at least some of the pictures back. If you haven't used the card since all the pics got messed up/deleted, you can get all of your pictures back. Before you buy the program it lets you see what's can be recovered from your memory card, but the pictures are very small.

I never knew anything like this existed until my friends pictures all got reformatted and she couldn't even view them. Her camera company suggested that program and all the pictures were still on the memory card =]

to the op- I hope you find your sd card. Hopefully it will just show up somewhere in your purse or house :)

When you put a new (or blank) SD card in your camera take a picture of an index card where you've written your name, address and telephone number on it (I put cell, home & work numbers). I read this somewhere and have been doing it ever since. This way if someone finds your SD card all the info will be there on how to get it back to you.

We had a house fire and alot of pics were ruined including a movie of my son's birth. The kicker is that just this summer someone broke into my house and stole my camera(along with my wedding rings, electronices etc). The sd card had pictures of my dd naked. She had Muscular dystrophy and her back is bending backwards. I was taking photo's to compare month by month. I'm so afraid that they were used for bad things:mad:.

In 2005, we went on our 2nd trip to Russia to adopt our darling daughter. We spent 10 days in Moscow after picking her up. So you can imagine the photos we had of her...first time in the car, first time playing ball with Daddy, first bath in the hotel. Everything was an adventure. In addition, we had gone all over Moscow to see the Zoo, St. Basil's Cathedral, Kremelin, etc.

Our camera was stolen near the end of the trip. We were heartbroken. But there is nothing you can do. You just hold the memories in your heart.

Hopefully, you will find your card.

I hope you get your card back!!!pixiedust:

As far as "how do you go on?"...We lost all of our pictures from our July trip - more than 800. I can relate to your heartbreak and pain. Short version of a long story - something happened to our SD card. They said it had received some sort of electrical shock, probably from a build up of static electricity on the airplane. It was crushing. We all cried. alot. Honestly, it's almost like a grieving process - you're sad, angry, depressed, and alot of other emotions in between, but eventually you reach acceptance. On a scale of 1 - 10 of the worst things that could happen on a vacation this is definately in the top 10 but not the top 5. No one got sick, hurt, lost, you travelled safely, you still had a home when you returned...kwim. AND you still have your memories - you always will. I still get sad about the missing pictures, and probably always will. They have become known as the "pictures that were" in our home. My dd loves to scrapbook and had bought herself one in Disney:sad1: Now it is sitting empty. We are planning a return trip, we know we will never get those pictures back but we are looking forward to taking some new ones!

Next trip, I will bring several SD cards and switch them frequently, rather than put all my pics on 1.

There are actually free downloads that do this. I accidentally reformatted my memory card in December and was able to rescue all my photos. I'll see if I can find the program again.

I hope you find your card! So far I've been fortunate enough not to have lost any of my cards (knock on wood!), but I know I would be devastated if I did!

I also buy new CF cards for my digital camera instead of re-using old ones. We usually buy them at Costco or get them elsewhere when they're on sale. I plan on taking my laptop when we go to Disneyworld in December, and will be downloading photos onto it while we're there. I'm also going an extra step and taking a few blank cd's with me, and I'll burn photos to them as I go. Just a little extra insurance!

I love the tip about taking a pic of an index card with your name & address on it. Excellent idea!

I have sung his praises to my friends enough times that even those who aren't Catholic e-mail from time-to-time asking for this prayer.

He's helped me with a lost checkbook, a lost license plate sticker, a neighbor's lost cat, lost keys, and numerous other items. It isn't magic...but if you believe that, through his intercession, you will be led to find your lost item, it almost always works.

The only time it hasn't worked for me is once when I was fairly sure I knew where I lost a set of keys, but wasn't able to go back there to search.

Here's the prayer:

To Find a Lost Article

St. Anthony, perfect imitator of Jesus, who received from God the special power of restoring lost things, grant that I may find (name your lost item) which has been lost. At least restore to me peace and tranquility of mind, the loss of which has afflicted me even more than my material loss. To this favor, I ask another of you: that I may always remain in possession of the true good that is God. Let me rather lose all things than lose God, my supreme good. Let me never suffer the loss of my greatest treasure, eternal life with God. Amen.

After my DD was born, my DH took the SD card to my mom's house to upload the pics and e-mail them to some family and friends. But, something went wrong and all the pictures disappeared. The very first minutes of her life, DH and I holding her while I was still laying there for my C-section, gone. I cried, and cried. It's so hard, because you can't get those back, and you're so scared you won't remember.

But, you do remember. You'll have those memories for the rest of your life. So, try to focus on the cherished memories, not the lost pictures. I know it's so hard, and I sincerely hope that someone finds that card and it makes it's way back to you.

OMG I would die if I lost pics like that! My pictures are so precious to me that I always tell DH that my pics better be the first things that we grab in an emergency where we have to leave our home.

I really don't remember little moments that I have captured after so long. Especially of my kids first days after they were born. Those days are nothing but a foggy blur because I was so tired. If I didn't have pictures, then I wouldn't know half of what happened! My heart goes out to you OP.

I wondered if there was an update from OP? If you haven't found the card, I would suggest buying a travel journal & writing down all the memories from your trip since you don't have the photos.

On my DD's first trip to DW in '06, we had photos of P & Princess Party, hotel, arrival at MK, first haircut at the Barber Shop, etc. so many wonderful things & DH took a photo of me & DS on one of the rides & left the camera on the ride. We waited & waited to see if it would reappear but someone took it, never turned it in to Lost & Found, and I had a complete meltdown in MK. Pictures have always meant so much to me & for someone to not turn that camera or at least the memory card in was very upsetting, but a couple of years & a couple of trips later, we have made some more wonderful memories. And that experience is something we will never forget (DH still jokes about me being in charge of the cameras from here on out!)

I haven't lost anything per say, but I did forget to take a picture of DD's first b-day cake, and it about killed me!!!!! I now make cakes for other people and I take 2-3 pics of their cakes just in case they forget to..:goodvibes

Dh and I did not get to have a wedding because he was going TDY to Cuba for 4 months, so my mother threw us a HUGE shower/reception with wedding cake and all. Well DH's mother volunteered to be the photographer for the event, so I said great!! Well a few weeks went by and I asked her about the pictures and she CLAIMS that the photo developing place she took the film to had called her to remind her to come pick up the photos and she forgot so they shredded my pictures and negatives. I have nothing from that day!!!! BOY WAS I EVER MAD at her...not a good way to start off a relationship with your brand new daughter-in-law...:rotfl: We have been married 13 years now and she and I get along great!!

OP-this is going to sound strange-but hey when you've looked everywhere else-what's one more place?

Last year we took our DD to Disney for her 6th birthday and 1st Disney trip-I took hundreds of pictures of course and when we got home didn't get around to downloading them-I know:confused3 . Well then it came up lost and I looked everywhere-EVERYWHERE! I was sick to my stomach over it. I had friends praying for me-because they knew how heartbroken I was over it.

Well a few weeks go by and I basically gave up. Then my dryer breaks, do DH decides he was going to give fixing it a shot(wasn't like he could make it any worse), so he flips it over and there's the card! How it got there I can only guess. I don't remember putting it in my pockets-I am too afraid of breaking them, so it must have fallen out of my camera bag onto something that was going to the basement for washing and got shook out and fell under the dryer.

So my point isn't that yours is under you dryer-but it could be??- but sometimes you think you have searched everywhere-but you haven't. It might still turn up in the most unlikely place. So keep looking around in what will seem odd places-heating registers, behind furniture, the bottom of hampers, under your car seats-you never know.

I am keeping my fingers crossed for you:goodvibes
