Can't share my love and excitement for DVC!

I sometimes have similar reactions as well but what I have found is a bit different. The initial response tends to be the shut down but over time it turns out that they are thinking about buying themselves. I have one coworker that I have talked to for quite some time about our trips. I don't think I am bragging as I mostly talk about the parks etc. We do talk about where we stay as well and normally my experience of no parking no hassle stressless vacation usually comes across. My coworker is now asking me all about DVC as he prepares to buy. Other coworkers talk about Disney as well and come to ask advice about trip planning etc. All I have to say is hang in their and enjoy as it gets better every year

I have had a lot of people show excitement over the news that we are going to Florida, some say "ugh, Disney", and others make a negative remark that we are going "again."

I think the negative remarks are because of:
1) Some people just don't like Disney. Often, these are people who tend to travel the world more and see Disney as so "American," or people who enjoy a more natural (camping....beach) or calm/relaxing experience.

2) Some people view Disney as a once-in-a-lifetime type trip. It is a major expense that they can't justify (or afford) annually, and they view a frequent Disney guest as an extravagant vacationer.

3) Some have negative views of timeshares.

4) Some love to take trips to different locations every time they can get away. The thought of going to the same place is not appealing to them.

I have also learned not to say anything about DVC to others. When they ask where I am going I say Florida. Then when they ask where in Florida I mention the name of the DVC resort instead of saying Disney.

In our experience only one family member enjoys talking about Disney and DVC and she purchased DVC points after we did. Most family members, friends and acquaintances think that spending regular vacations at WDW or DL has to be boring. And many of these folks spend their vacations going to the same lake or beach for their annual R&R. I remember one retired friend mentioning that 15 years ago they went to WDW with their teenage daughters and after one day they had seen everything at WDW. It turns out they went to DHS only. She thought MK was was too juvenile for her family and Epcot too boring. And AK wasn't built. It was obvious that the parks were not something she enjoyed and would never understand that we did. I just told her we really enjoyed our Disney trips and bought into the DVC because we planned to go yearly.

So I too enjoy discussing our trips and planning to WDW on forums.

I have two different reasons for not wanting to share our trip plans.

The first is that I teach to many different age groups, and am around even more. I really hate telling clients that I'm going on vacation, because they ask where, and then saying California or Florida isn't enough, and I hate, hate, hate saying that we're going to Disney when there are children around, especially in this economic climate. I really don't want an entire class of eight year olds hating me because DH and myself go to Disney twice year.

The second reason is my background in the arts and a circle of friends who are still involved. I've gotten good at defending Disney from the perspective of an art critic ... enough to the point that I've got a few who want to come with some time.
