Can't seem to reserve a seat on Continental.com

Hoping someone out there can help or at least point me in the right direction. I have our flight already paid for with Continental (operated by United). I booked back in January. No matter what, I can not get it to reserve me a seat online - do I have to wait until online check in to get a seat assignment? Seems kind of crazy if I do. They'll be 4 of us including our 2 kids and I don't want us to be scattered about the aircraft. We are 19 days away from our trip and when I look online at the seats still available there aren't that many and a lot are single seats. I'm getting worried now that they will over book the flight and we'll get bumped. What do I do? Help! :scared1:

Is it a codeshare flight? Booked through Continental but flying a United aircraft (or the other way around?) If so, that may be the reason.

When you click on the reservation, and go through to the second screen, near the bottom is a place to click to change seats. I am sure you did that already :thumbsup2

I would then call them. Recently I had a flight that we actually had assigned seats, but they had moved us (changed aircraft type) and the seats were in an area that I could not change online. I did have to wait until I checked in to change online.

Good luck

Debbie

Check your Continental confirmation and see if they give you your United Airlines Confirmation Code. It will be different from the Continental one. If you can't find the code then you can use your E-Ticket number which should definitely be on your receipt. It's a long number. You can then use that number to go onto the United Airlines website and pull up your reservation. From there you should be able to choose seats.

My DH travels on United metal once in a while even though he booked Continental and this is what we have to do to get his seats.

United blocks the seats in the front half of the plane for their premium flyers and people willing to pay for extra legroom (economy plus). I believe they open them up to anyone at online check-in if they don't have a seat.

Rather than playing online, I would call them and see if they can do anything.

As pointed out, this is a United flight, not a Continental flight. You need to call United.

I believe they open them up to anyone at online check-in if they don't have a seat.

Usually only to those willing to pay for E+ seating. I have flown on many United flights where Economy is packed and there is lots of open seating in E+.

Thanks everyone! Yes, this is a codeshare flight booked with Continental but flying on United. So, I have to call United - is that right? Here's hoping I can get a seat reservation that way. Anytime I try "managing your reservation" and click on the seats I would like for each of us - it doesn't save it. Sheesh!

and even though you booked with Continental, your flight is on United so they are your contact. If you have to check luggage at the airport, you go to the United desk, not Continental.

Call United and have your confirmation code and ticket numbers ready.

Thanks everyone. I called United and got my seat assignments for all but one the legs (DEN to MCO). If I could actually talk to a person rather than a computer I am sure I could get my seats. I think the reason they won't give me an assignment for that leg is we can't get all 4 seats together but we could get 2 seats together which is better than nothing. I guess there isn't anything I can do about that - should I keep calling back over the next few days hoping someone has cancelled and maybe snag some seats then? WWYD?

Well, I called back and got through United's computer automated system by saying "agent" into the phone. It eventually connected me with a real live person and they managed to get my DD and I together and my DH and DS together. Phew! Thanks for everyone's help here - what a great bunch of people. :thumbsup2 Now we just have to keep the count down going until our time in the World.

OP not to change the subject... have you flown continental before? What did you think? I am looking at a flight early october, but have never flewn them. What is if like compared to delta/us air?

I've never flown them before so I'm hoping they're good. I got such a good deal that I couldn't say no. I just happened to be looking on their website one January morning and plugged in our destination with 4 passengers and my jaw hit the table. I figured I would do good to get a flight for 4 from Seattle to Orlando for around $1200 return (Cdn dollars). I got this flight for 4 for US$92.09 each way. The cheapest I have ever seen it was Southwest for $99 each way and that was 2 years ago. I have all airlines book marked on my computer and I just check them each day with a bottom line of what I am willing to pay and if I get it cheaper (which I was able to in this case) - I take it. Sorry - doesn't really answer your question.

I find Continental to be much better than Delta or USAir. JMO

Agreed. Though OP won't be able to answer the question even after flying since the flights are on United...... LOL
