Can't go tomorrow!

I need some sympathy. A week at WDW for DS12 and I starting tomorrow has been cancelled. Great airfares, great on-site ressies all gone. DS12 may have whooping cough. Won't know for sure until after we were scheduled to leave. I think I'm more upset about it than he is, as he feels so lousy.

Here's the question. I'm thinking of rescheduling for either the end of Jan to early Feb which is his birthday, but he would miss a week of school. Or I could go over Easter when he has a school break. Downside is DH doesn't really want to go, but I hate for the family not to be together for a holiday.

Any input would be appreciated.

I am so sorry for your plans. That is horrible and a HUGE disappointment, I know!!
I don't know how old your son is, but I would not recommend taking a child out of school for a week. Will this be your first trip to Disney World? Spring Break will be VERY crowded but the weather should be HEAVENLY (has been the past 2 years for us in early April!) I would go then - although January and February are closer:teeth: and going for his bday would be really fun!
Good Luck whatever you decide and Happy Planning:earsgirl:

Taking your son out is completely up to you, but I would consider the following:

Does his school district allow it? Many do, but many don't. Find out the policy before switching your plans.

If they do allow it, find out if his teacher is willing to make up a packet of work for him to do before or durring the trip. This way he isn't behind much upon his return. My mother pulled my brothers and I out of school for a week to go to WDW when we were in grade school. We all had to do work from our packet each night after the parks and before we could go to the arcade for the evening. We came back, were not behind, and picked up where we left off with little dificulty.

Is your son a good student? My brothers and I all were, so that helped. If your son is having problems, I'd avoid pulling him if possible.

How much school will your son miss due to his current illness? If he's going to miss more than a day or two, again, you may not want to pull him in February. A little time away is okay, but two differant week long abesences may not be a good idea.

As for Easter, make sure you can get good (or any) airfare for that time before switching your hotel reservations. Air to FL during Spring Break can be tough to get. Do your research.

I hope your little guy feels better soon!

I don't like that word cancelled...it sounds so permanent! :( It's not a cancellation, but instead a postponement. You hang in there and make plans for the very near future. I would follow Chicago526's advice about pulling your DS out of school, sounds like fabulous advice!

Keep us posted!
