Can't get thru to them

I stuck my nose in once, and once was enough. I offered to help a few family members who were going to WDW plan their trip with things that worked for me. They're older and were taking an 8-year-old with them. I said consider staying on property, especially since one of them needed a scooter. Take the buses. Get FP (this was when paper FP were still in use), and maybe plan some meals although that wasn't strictly necessary as quick service and food court was always an option.

Welp, they stayed two hours away at a hotel that turned out to be a nightmare. The guy drove everywhere and was exhausted with the process of taking apart the scooter every time they wanted to go somewhere else. The 8-year-old hated the driving time, and basically everything else. They purchased park admission at the MK and after three hours the little one wanted to leave because they didn't get Fastpasses, so they were standing in endless lines. The adults saw the machines and thought you had to put money in the get a FP (even tho I had said they were free). It all ended with them leaving the MK in defeat and going back to the hotel where they spent the entire week. When they got home, they told me all this stuff, and I just commiserated instead of telling them they should have listened to me. Now, I keep my nose out unless asked a specific question by someone.

I have gotten to the point that if someone asks I give them the general run down of the what and how and then do as Elsa would and LET IT GO! When they look at me like I've grown an extra head when I tell them about 180 day ADRs and booking rides 60 days in advance I know that they just aren't going to be that into it. If we get past that part I usually lose them at the "get out of bed early" for RD part. A few suggestions is all I offer and then if they show more interest I *might* help them. I've been bitten by trying to help too much and won't do it again.

I think the people who really want to know the ins and outs will do the research and wind up finding the answers they need-that's how I got to the Dis many years ago.

We sort of vacation this way. I make the ADRs and FP because we can, but half the time we end up canceling or not even using them because we decided to do something else. We like to sleep in and relax and have never done RD ever. We've loved every trip.
