Can't get into BBB, can I do it myself in the room?

I think it is a fabulous idea to do this on your own and could be a great mom/daughter bonding experience.

I would lean towards devoting at least an un-rushed hour and really making it fun. You could even both doll yourselves up!

I'm bringing fun tatoos, hair coloring and pirate stuff for my boys and am going to do a pirate night one day of our vacation. Honestly I don't think they care if mom or someone else does it, they have fun either way.

I agree! Do it yourself is the way to go. It was actually fun. I did practice her hair at home before we went so that I would know what I was doing and it went smoother the morning I actually did it. A little glitter eyeshadow, some gems, lip gloss and glitter hair/body spray and she was good to go! Here she is the morning we went to CRT.

Great work and your daughter is beautiful!
OP, I'd go with the in room make over. Those BBB areas can get noisy. Little girls enjoy dressing up and your little one probably won't mind where she gets the royal treatment.

Harmony Barbershop would NOT do an updo for us this past August. However they did do a ponytail and gave me an extra hairband to make the bun before they put the gel and confetti on.

On our Epcot day, I did the hair in the hotel and used a little compact of loose glitter to sprinkle on her her :)

I was going to post a picture, but I am horrible at that on here so instead I will just share my thoughts. We went in September, and my niece who was then three was going to the MNSSHP, and wanted to be a princess as well. My sister in law did not want to pay the high prices for BBB just yet since she was so young. So she brought her own dress, shoes, glitter, and tiara from home. When she was done my niece looked just like she had visited the BBB. Her hair is not short so we were able to put it up on top in a loose bun, and hold it down with bobby pins. We then put glitter hair spray in her hair, and finished it off with a tiara from home. She then put on her Cinderella dress, and loved every moment of it! After a little glitter on the face and eyes with her much needed lipstick (chapstick) she was so cute!

My sister in law also wanted her first haircut to be at Disney World so she visited the Barber Shop and they did cut her hair, and then a lot of confetti in it. Definitely not glitter that will stay, but confetti that will stay for a bit! :thumbsup2

Whatever you decide to use for the glitter whether roll on or spray, try it out at home first and make sure there are no reactions to it.
My niece did the whole princess thing one holiday and broke out terribly as it turned out she was allergic to whatever was used. Never had a reaction to anything before so this was a first.

Claire's has both Hair Spray Glitter and Body Glitter. You can also find Faux Nails (sized for little fingers) and lots of make up suitable for little girls. Some children's hair cut locations also have Fairy Dust (Hair Glitter).

When my daughter did BBB one year she wanted to have the same princess bun for Halloween so I studied how they were able to do it and make it last so long. The key is to use a ton of gel - that is what allows them to get the hair so smooth and manageable. There are probably videos online of exactly how they did it. It's been a few years so I don't remember all of the details like how they keep a small section of hair out to wrap around. We have found glitter spray at a sweet and sassy also - I believe they also sell the colored hair pieces if you wanted to do that instead of a tiara. The tiaras are available in the Disney store as people have mentioned so you can practice at home. We also go to the shop behind the castle for extra glitter...

Before our trip, I watched videos on youtube to see how they do the buns at BBB. I packed surprise princess gowns for the girls (purchased on sale at the Disney Store), glitter and tiaras. My girls had a great day.

Our extended family has always taken a DiY approach. I can't say we truly replicate the BBB experience, but then, we don't like the severe look of BBB.

We prefer to spend most of our vacation in the parks, so things like nails get done before the vacation starts.

It's pretty easy to find all kinds of hairclips and stuff at WDW. The WoD shop in DTD comes to mind. There are also other places, and of course knock off versions of tiaras. Doing the hair yourself means you are free to invent your own updo.

One great place to find all sorts of character stuff is your local party store. Similarly, most big box stores have a party supply area. In addition to BBB stuff, they are a great place to find little party favor type toys. These can be great as travel toys. Party stores are also a great place to find glitter hairspray. More good places to look: pharmacies, beauty supply stores and cosmetics stores.

One word of caution! Go OUTSIDE to apply glitter of any kind. It makes a HUGE mess. A certain amount will fall off shortly after you apply it- so it's also wise to apply it just before heading out. The % that's going to fall out will fall out outdoors, much better than having glitter all over your pillow when you try to sleep. Getting it in your eye hurts.
