Can't get Internet service @ my house. Can anyone help??

we moved to our house back in July 2012. The previous owners worked from home via internet (AT&T DSL). We assumed that when we moved in, we would be able to get service as well but that has not been the case. We paid $80/month for satellite internet service (Hughes Net) & it was TERRIBLE. We have a child who is starting school in Aug so we are kinda desperate to get service & were willing to pay Charter $1500 to run their lines to our house but was told that they are unable due not being the company who holds the contract to service our area. We called AT&T again & the only thing they can offer us is satellite internet via their partner, Hughes Net, um NO THANK YOU!!

Is there anything we can go??? I was thinking of going to the County Commission, but that is just a thought, I am not sure they can do anything.

We really don't live that far "out".

Can anyone give helpful tips to having our area serviced with "real" internet service??

Not much anyone can do. We had that situation when we first moved into this house in Feb 2015. Comcast hadn't dropped lines yet, AT&T didn't service the area. We tried all the things you mentioned. The county said it was a business matter and had no input. We went with Exede, which is satellite based. It wasn't as bad as we thought it would be. It did fine for us for the year until Comcast dropped their lines.

When we moved up here about a year ago, I was really upset because after having AT&T for years and being happy, the only options in my house were satellite or Comcast, who I'd heard horrible things about. It was frustrating because my friends that live 5 minutes away had several more options, but for some reason my neighborhood didn't. I was eligible for DISH TV (now with AT&T), but they don't provide internet up here, only cable (don't get it!?!?). I really didn't want a satellite, so ended up having to go with Comcast against my wishes. Fortunately (knock on wood) there have been no horrible customer service issues yet, but we're still within our promotion period.

We live 25 miles out of town and have a T1 its ok we use it for work.
If you have phone lines you should be able to get a T1 good luck

We've had Comcast since 2002 and have never had a problem.

Do you have home phone? Through who? They might have DSL service.

Also, the cell providers (Definitely Verizon, probably ATT) have service that can connect your house via cell. Wont be fast, but it would be something. Thats assuming you have good cell service.

Next would be if your cable company services the house, they probably have an internet solution also.

Last option is Satellite.

That's pretty much it.

Do you have cell service? Maybe sing the phone as a wifi hotspot?

Pay-as-you-go cellular hotspot, and careful usage. No video streaming etc.

If it were me I'd move.

Hmmm. They phased out ATT DSL here last year and moved us all to ATT U-verse. But I only have internet from them.

Because they only allow a certain number of ppl in a neighborhood & when the previous owners disconnected service, the next person on the wait list was granted access & we were left out.

We have DirecTV, they gave us the option for satellite internet but it's soooooo slow & not worth the $$.

I recommend strongly getting on the waitlist then. As the waitlist grows.... it shows strong demand and the internet provider would notice good interest to expand infrastructure.

We are, plus we call on a regular basis (like monthly). It's extremely aggravating.

I didn't realize that when we bought it. The previous owner was here working on her laptop when we looked at the house & even told us that she petitioned AT&T to come to the neighborhood. I was shocked & still am that we can't get Internet. We live less than two miles from a very populated city. People that live "further out" than us are able to get better internet service than we are.

We love the house & location but are seriously thinking of selling more everyday.

I wonder if we're reaching enough of a tipping point with backlash and disillusionment with the internet, and people wanting to "unplug", that you could somehow spin "no internet service" into a selling point for the house.

If you're two miles from a major town, you should have decent cellular coverage. Check out the prepaid hotspots. They may be faster and cheaper than you think.
