Okay, I finally made a pot of corned beef and cabbage that was fantastic! It was so tender you could cut it with a fork! :bounce:

I've tried making it for the past 5 years for DH on St. Patrick's Day and it just never turned out quite right...always cooked it on the stove and boiled in water all day. Well, this year after reading the thread that was floating around the past week, I opted to cook it in the crock pot with about a cup of beer. Alright, I confess I meant to use Guinness, but since nobody at my house is a big beer drinker and the smallest size of Guinness I could buy was a quart, which I didn't want to waste, I bought something that I do like to drink once in a while, Honey Brown. I wasn't sure, but hey, if what the Frugal Gourment used to say is true, then I did right..."if it's not good enough to drink then it's not good enough to cook with." I also rinsed the corned beef this time, put it in the crock pot, poured the beer around it and sprinkled the seasonings on top and let it set on high for 3 hrs., low for 4hrs., then added a head of cabbage quartered, back on high for an hour and it was perfect! DH was very pleased...even DS tried some of the meat and liked it.

So, to the DIS folks who gave all the hints on corned beef and cabbage...a big thanks! It was great! :grouphug:
