Can't Figure Out This Banking/Borrowing/ Transfer Issue

So we'll soon have 60 added on BWV points with a UY of August and we've been in borrow mode so long, I can't figure out what to do with them!. There are 59 points coming August 2011. If we plan a trip for October 2012, I'll book the trip in November 2011. Will I have to bank the August 2011 points to use them in Oct. 2012?

To complicate matters further, these points have a different UY than our other BW points, which are February. To combine those points, we'll have to transfer them into the Feb. account. Even if we use them in 2012, they still count as a 2011 transfer, correct?

Life is much easier in borrow mode--you never have to think about all this lol. I'm sure we'll be back in it soon enough, though.
 
What you will need to do is transfer the Aug 2011 points into your Feb 2011 UY now. Then bank them into the Feb 2012 UY. They will remain Aug 2011 points, but they will be part of your Feb 2012 UY so you can combine them with the Feb 2012 points.

You can't transfer banked points and you cannot borrow transferred points, but you can bank transferred points.

So do not bank the Aug 2011 points first. Transfer them first.
 
Your two use years is like being two totally different people. Thus:

1. You can transfer out of one contract into the the other even though that is two transfer events for you in the same use year (2011), one out of the Aug contract and one into the Feb contract. That will count as your 2011 use year transfer and thus use up your one transfer for the Aug 2011 use year and the one for your Feb 2011 use year

2. Aug 2011 points can be used for an Oct 2012 trip only if banked. (In determining whether you need to bank you look at time you will be at WDW not time you call to reserve,) If you are going to use the transfer route to combine points, you must do the transfer before doing any banking because banked points cannot be transferred.

3. Your alternative to using a transfer is to use your Feb contract to reserve some nights of your trip and then your Aug contract (after banking) for other nights of your trip and link the reservations.
 
OOH... All of that makes my head hurt.. I agree that drusba's option #3 is the easiest to do. It just confirms that I want all my points in one use year.
 

So if your UY was the same even if the resorts were different you wouldn't need to worry about the tranfers??

If you are doing a resale, the presumption is that the contract you are buying is separate from your other one even if same use year. However, when you do purchase a contract within same use year as another contract you already have AND make a specific effort to make sure Disney is informed BEFORE closing that you want the resale contract to be combined with your other use year contract, Disney will combine the contracts and you will retain only one member number. If that occurs all the points will be considered as together as one group in one use year with no issues of transfer and all treated the same for banking purposes. In other words, it won't happen automatically and though brokers should know this issue, some miss it.

However, if you purchase reslae in another use year, it can never be combined or changed into the other use year and you must take the contract with a new member number and have to deal with the the separate contract issue, i.e., if OP buys that Aug contract he will have two use years with the separation issues no matter what.

If you buy an add-on through Disney, it is will be in the same use year you have and the add-on is automatically added to your exisitng contract amd member number.

Most years, we'll be just using the points without transferring them into the Feb acct and banking anything that's left. This year just caught us off-guard because the we already have our next two trips planned and "paid" for. Thanks for the help, everyone!
