Now the planning for this years hols are back on track, I am really racking my brains over which flights to get!

Our dates of travel are not very flexible as we already have the accommodation for both weeks booked (17th Sep - 24th SSR, 24th - 1st Oct PBH) so the options we are looking at are...

Booking direct with Virgin/BA. This is our fav option but we are finding flights expensive at around £450 pp and don't know if we should wait and see if the prices drop to around £380.

Booking in-direct. We have never gone in-direct before and after reading about connecting flights being cancelled we are a bit worried about going for this option. Also a lot of the flights have under 2hrs between connecting flights, is this long enough to go through immigration and customs and then check into the next flight?! :confused3

Plus most of the in-direct flights depart at around 13:30 for the flight back home, this is really early and we would have to look at booking 1 extra nights accommodation at the end of our holiday so we can get the most out of our 'last day'.

If anyone has got any info that would help us sway to going in-direct please share!

Thanks! :thumbsup2

We love going indirect but others don't. 2 hour change is perfect, I accept anything over 90 mins.
Just checked your dates(17th Sept, 14 nights) £292.26 per person indirect, £429.10 direct. £137pp saving, for 3 of us thats over £400, no contest for me £400 towards next trip. For others its worth spending the extra.

Thanks for the feedback Wayne :thumbsup2

Which airlines would you choose over the others? I hear some of them have merged together now?

Thanks.

Best I have used is NWA without question last Oct but now merged with Delta. 2nd best has been BMI, now don't fly from manchester for us.
Its all down to which plane and staff you get on the day, they are all very similar, get a newer plane and good staff you will enjoy the flight, older plane and miserable staff you won't enjoy as much. None can be as bad as BA Manch~NYC, worst ever.
If possible try use a hub on East coast, further inland you go the more it adds to the journey but we don't mind any, used Atlanta, Washington, 2 in NY, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Philly(sure I missed some) enjoyed every airport none better or worse for us.

I'm trying in direct this year for the first time & although part of my flight as been cancelled it's been arranged for a better time. Always booked Newcastle to Sandford in past & last year we had a delay going, then stopped at Gatwick for new crew, then at Canada to re fuel it was a nightmare & that was just the way there, will never do package again. I am a little nervous of in direct but lots do it & it means I can go next year as well. Hope you get a good deal.
