Ok - first year as DVC member I added on 50 pts to 350. Then this year talked DW into another 50 pt (tax refund) to get us to 400 and I SWORE that would be enough. Now I'm thinking man I'm going to have to transfer or rent points for a trip we're going to take in Jan 2011 because the 10 day trip we're taking in nov 2010 is borrowing 82 points from 2011! How am I going deal?:confused3. I found out I want to make the trips longer and more relaxing and we have to stay in the 2BR...

One choice is to stay off-site for a year and trade in our Mexico TS (one we've never been to since we've bought it!) and get a place close but not on site.

Tell me - once on site how does it feel to be off-site? Is it okay?

We have traded our Mexico timeshare and stayed off site at Orange Lake and at Vacation Village and while they were both fine, nothing compares to Disney :) Since becoming DVC members and Disney trading thru RCI, we have traded our MX timeshare for Disney. I completely understand though - we have used our MX since we bought it, but not as frequently since our little guys. We bought a year ago January and added on in December and I am already getting that urge for more points - it may be an addiction :)

A standard warning here on the Dis - Adonitis is like a bad rash - you never really get rid of it; it may almost go away, but then flairs back up when you least expect!

Glad to know we aren't the only ones with addonitis. We have 3 contracts already and only became members in July 2008. We are waiting til next year and then adding another 100 points we need to keep the contracts even between the kids.

Your thoughts are my thoughts...only I only just purchased 100 points and have just made my first reservations home for Nov. I am already plotting out my secret attack on DBF of adding more points on that trip! :lmao:

Addonitis... :rotfl: I like that !! We only have 161 points and can't really afford to add on, but man oh man do I sit and just wish. Right now we are a single income family and I am home with my youngest DS2. Next year he is starting preschool and both my children will be in Catholic School, which is an expense we were not originally intending. But since it was the only full day Kindergarten in the area and my son has been reading for over almost 2 years I just couldn't send him to a 1 /2 hr program where they were going to be learning letter sounds..he would be too bored. Anyway, point being I find myself searching for a job for next year not only to afford 2 children in private school, but also just so I can add on and go to Disney more...
Oh, yeah I have it pretty bad :cool1:

I bought in exactly two years ago and have added on FIVE times since then! God help me.....:lmao:

I've had multiple episodes of Addonitis (unfortunately, unlike chicken pox -- it comes back). We joined in 2000 - purchased at BWV while on our honeymoon :lovestruc

Our first add on was HHI, then we added on at SSR, BLT, and then again in January of 2010 at AKV

Sorry, there just doesn't seem to be a cure....and if you find one DO NOT tell my DH!!! :rolleyes1

Off-site is a fine vacation. Just stick to a namebrand timeshare like Marriott or Sheraton. You'll have to drive yourself to Disney parks so plan on a rental at least.

What kills you is going from on-site to off-site in one trip. Once you're here you only want to be here.

We split time between marriott and Disney. Our first week is always offsite at a Marriott. We go to Disney for some things but hang out and rest at the resort the most. On-site that means doing all Disney stuff.

You DO get over addonitis eventually, once you have enough points. In my case (as a single mom with 1 son when I joined) "enough" was about 15 contracts and over 1000 points. Everyone has their own "enough" - once you reach it, there's no desire for more points. Also, the dues tend to keep addonitis in check once you get to the bigger numbers

1000 points, wow! In Feb I would have thought you were nuts, but since that time we have added on twice and went from 320 to 605 points in a blink of an eye. Mainitance fees will help cure further add ons but with all "bonus" 2009 points given (even with resale add on) I know I am going to be spoiled with 3 ressies in the next 9 months all 2 bedroom, and 1 ressie for DD 1 week Studio.
:rotfl2:

I got over addonitis once I reached 25 contracts and 1,250 points.

1250 points?!?!?!

Man oh man. And I'm just a newbie on my first contract with 160 points!

I just got them last month so hopefully I won't get addonitis just yet!

First trip in four days. I think I'll add more once hawaii is open next year. DW wants to go to Hawaii in the worst way.

I know how you feel. We first bought 175 pts. in 2007 during our first family trip to WDW. Then in 2008 we added another 175 after I broke my leg on vacation, if you can believe it! :lmao: Last add on was in March of this year. Another 175. I don't know why we are stuck on that number:confused3. Have we reached our saturation point yet? Who knows? :rolleyes1
