Where do I go next? I have been pouring through all kinds of camera information. The T2i, T3i, and 60d. Who has upgraded their body from one of the old rebels? What did they buy, are they happy, what do they wish they would have bought?

I had a Rebel XT....
Went to a 7D.. wow. WAY more camera than I know how to use....

I went from the 40D to the 7D (still have the 40 as a backup). Love them both, but especially the 7D.

Hey Mike! I think we've chatted about this already. But I just want to say good luck!

You know I went from the Xsi to the T2i. I'm very happy with the T2i. I do wish I had the higher burst rate offered by the 60D. I don't know if I want to carry a larger heavier camera though, so it's not the end of the world.

Have fun shopping! Are you keeping the Xti for one of the kids? Don't forget about the Canon loyalty program.

Well it depends what you want to do with your photographs. Next step up from the consumer cameras of the Rebels up to the 60D is the prosumer (? lol) 5D and 7D. As assume you know how to use your camera in manual settings? I personally have a 50D. ONLY because my 30D was stolen *sigh* and when it was replaced by insurance the 50D was the newest camera available.

I think your camera is the best bang for the buck Janet. Your shots with the new camera are simply wonderful.

I think I have definitely decided not to do the Canon Loyalty Trade In program because I don't want a refurbished camera. You basically would get a camera for about $200 off and you can trade any canon camera in you want (broken, old, cheap) but you don't know what kind of shutter count your going to get.

I plan to keep the xti for both my wife and kids.

Many thanks Mike! I've been very happy with the T2i. Sure the articulated screen of the T3i would be nice, but not something I'd probably use often enough to matter.

The higher ISO has been a huge improvement, especially at Disney. I also like the quick guide on the LCD screen in back. My T2i is off with my 2 Sigma lenses for calibration and I've been using the Xsi as a backup, and I really miss BOTH that higher ISO and the quick screen.

I think you'll enjoy having a second DSLR in your house too. Any budding photographers among the kids?

I have a Rebel XT and moved to a 50D for my primary body. I still use the XT for some things. I went with a 50D for the ISO range, the burst rate and the buffer size. I'm happy with it and unless things change radically in the next year or so, my next body will be a 1D mark IV because for me the only thing I'd upgrade again for (with things as they are right now) is ISO range. And honestly, it's just because shooting in ridiculously low light is just plain fun for me.

So, the biggest question I would ask is what is it that your current camera is not doing for you? What do you hope to gain by getting a new body?

How long before your camera comes back to you?

Budding photographers? My wife and she's better than me!

ISO, Bigger body (ergonomics), and video won't hurt. I have been playing with all three but love the feel of the 60d. Don't like the price though. If I did pull the trigger I would probably save the money and buy the body only and try to use the money I would save from the bundle on a different lens. My son is getting into tennis and the burst rate will definitely play as one other factor. I don't know why but low light is where I find a lot of my areas of shooting. I love your quote about low light. Made me smile.

It arrived at Sigma last Thursday. I called Friday to confirm it was there and they said it would go back out tomorrow.

If your son is playing tennis, I'm quite sure you will prefer the 60D. I fill my buffer quite often with my son in XC and Track. I usually shoot RAW, but am thinking I need to go back to Jpeg for these so I can use a smaller file size and hopfully not fill it as quickly.

I think your plan of getting a body only and saving for a better lens (since you do have a kit lens you can start with) sounds like a good plan.

I went from the original rebel to a 7D when it came out. This opened up a whole new world for me. I have been learning more, wanting to better myself way more than when I had the rebel, and deff spending more money now on lens! lol It was deff one of the best choices I ever made. My mom has my old rebel which still puts out some great pics. She uses it everyday cause she watches our baby girl and snaps like a typical grandma and grandpa! :) My wife has the newest rebel (i can't remember all thier lettering). It's our second camera for Disney when I don't feel like carrying my 7D at night or in the day and want to just play. Yes there is a difference, but the new rebel is a great great camera too! It is soooo light and very fun to use. not all the bells of the 7d but deff enough.

I went from the Canon XSi to the 60D. I love the 60D. The ISO upgrade alone was worth the upgrade.

If you can swing it, I'd suggest the 7D just so you'd have a pretty good camera for a while. Rumors have been around for a long time that the 5D is due for an update, which, when it happens, may give a good deal on the old models. However, that rumor has been around for a couple of years. Sooner or later it will be true. The latest is a new 5D in February, but you may not want to wait that long.

I went from an XTi to a 50D. I like the feel of the 50D in my hands. I always had the battery grip on the XTi so I am used to the body being bigger. Faster shutter, higher ISO, faster (IMHO) focus, real spot metering, and flash on camera control of my external flash all helped me move to the 50D. Higher ISO is important to me as I do a lot of shooting using available light, and often in low light. One thing I love way more than I thought I would is the lcd display on the top of the camera showing current settings. I am not a big user of live view, so I find this an easy way to check and tweak settings, especially when I am using a tripod.

Overall, I am very happy with the 50D. The ISO range have definitely allowed me to get shots I would not have been able to take with the XTi in low light, using available light. Let us know which way you go!

Where did you pick up your lens when you upgraded?

I think the Canon 17-55 f/2.8 came from B&H.

The 50-150 f/2.8 came from Ebay.

The Sigma 30mm f/1.4 came from Adorama I think.

You any closer to a decision?

No. Not yet. I'm planning on going this weekend to some stores to play with them again.
