Canon T3 Battery Question

Its ok I wont judge you lol. I just know I know have close to enough. After a week in Glacier National Park I only used 64gigs and that was shooting RAW, now I dont do video yet. So with 96gigs in good fast new cards I am good for just about any trip. However any large National Park trip I do I always pick up a couple more cards just to be sure. So the collection will keep growing. My DD9 has a cheapy P&S that she got a few years ago, it has a 16gig card in it and the camera has no idea how to compute how many images are left on it lol.

Each year I try to add at least one new 32 GB card when I find a good price. I want to phase out any of the 8 GB cards left in my collection. Some prefer smaller cards to avoid a bigger loss in the event of a card malfunction. I prefer larger cards to minimize my handling of the cards and potential for dropping or losing any.

I know I need to get more, but the DH thinks I'm crazy. We're going to drive from Texas to either CA or DC this summer with the kids, and will be gone at least 10 days. Then in 2015, I'm trying to convince him to take a 7 night Disney cruise out of Port Canaveral, FL, and we'll drive from Texas to get on the ship. Before getting on the ship, we'll do at least one day at NASA. Plus, it'll be on 20th wedding anniversary, so I know I'll take tons of pictures. On both trips, we won't take a laptop with us. I use my laptop for gaming, and I can't take a chance on anything happening to it while on vacation. My DH thinks we'll be fine with the memory we have, since I won't take any video. I'll probably just keep my eye out on them going on sale and buy more when they do.

Right now I have 2 - 16 GB memory cards. When I said something to my DH about getting another one, he looked at me like I had 3 heads.

That's not enough for a 10 day trip with no way to dump the cards. Not even if you shoot jpeg only with the T3. You also never know when a card will fail and like batteries, they're something you just can't shoot without.

I have 12 32 GB cards and 4 16 GB cards and I still wouldn't go on vacation without my laptop do download to. Not even if I were shooting jpeg only.

448gigs is not enough to hold all you shoot on a standard vacation? You must take a heck of a lot of photos :) After my second photo based vacation I learned I shoot way to much, and I now think twice about every shot. I got tired of spending the following week culling my shots. If I dont think it will turn into a wall hanger, I pass it up. Now my wife will grab everything with her cell camera so we have photos for family albums and what not.

I don't even do photo based vacations. Never have, probably never will. And I don't think I shoot excessively, I stopped living my life through the viewfinder a long time ago. One day I may fill 3 32 GB cards and the next I may only fill half of a 16. It just depends on what we're doing that day. Some venues warrant more shooting than others. So over 10 days.... no, I would totally not feel comfortable without a way to dump my cards. A weekend, sure it's more than enough. Maybe even for 5 days. But 10 days is a long time to not have any way to dump your cards. It's also a long time for me personally to be disconnected. As a gamer and someone who is active on social media I tote my laptop everywhere anyway.

That's exactly the spot I'm in. I want to shoot as the mood strikes me, without concern for whether my cards will fill up. Nor do I want to delete shots from the cards in the camera.

And buying cards in the parks is so much more expensive. And they don't have the brand, capacity or speed cards I prefer. I bought one on the last day of our trip last December and all they had available was 8 GB in an off-brand for somewhere around $20. I'll probably never use that card again. For now it remains in my card wallet as a back-up.

Feeling like the odd one out now  on average how many shots a day are you guys taking? On a typical family vacation I only average around 250 or so a day. If I am out doing landscapes then only around 100.

This past trip to Disney was 8 days and I shot 2,000 photos. I quickly edited that down to half and now I'm culling that down farther to make an album of our trip. Ideally, I'd like to have 500 in my book of really fantastic memories. Like others, I don't like to delete in camera so I know many of those are test shots etc. I just feel that so many shots are indoors where I'm burning my batteries by using my flash.

I love having two or three batteries in the park as we go from morning to night. And then while sleeping I can be charging two batteries and then my third when getting ready. And then I always have that fourth just in case.

This group probably tends to photograph more than the average WDW visitor. I can easily take hundreds a day without feeling like I spent that day looking through the viewfinder. Then there is HDR, where each photo can have 3, 5, 7, or more exposures. Those go through memory cards quickly and they are really good for landscapes.

I see that :) This will be my first trip to DL where I plan to focus on photo's .... along with the main rides I wanna do and family time lol byt my wife and daughter are both great about letting me putts around with my camera.

Don't feel odd. If you're getting the shots you want who cares how much someone else shoots. Most of us here are way too obsessed with our cameras anyway. Sometimes I think they'll have to surgically remove the strap from my neck.

If you are looking for some good low cost memory, Amazon has Sony SD Cards for 65% off. Just picked up a couple more 16gig cards at less then $9 each. This is in their daily deals section.

I use a 60D and I shoot upwards of 300+ shots per day when I take it to the parks. I never come back to the room with less than 70% charge. Granted, I hardly ever use the built-in flash (have a 230EX), but I just don't see even one being a problem. Overnight charging is more than enough for the next day's shooting.

Having said that, I always have a spare in my bag but I have long since started just leaving it in the room. I'm that confident of the one I'm "toting."

Everybody's got an opinion. YMMV.
