Canon SX120

Does anyone use the Canon PowerShot SX120? Could you tell me anything about it?

I've had Canon cameras for years but need a new one for my Feb trip & this one sounds like it is a decent camera. I've been reading reviews and ratings and am overwhelmed so if you have first hand experience with this camera, I'd love to hear about it.

Hi everyone-

I'm looking at upgrading our existing P&S to a much better one, not ready for a dSLR yet.

I'm done a bunch of research & within my price range I'm considering either the Canon SD1400 or SX120.

Can anyone share any opinions on one or the other? I'm leaning towards the 1400 based on a few more features that I feel are better but just looking for other views on the topic.

I purchased the SX120IS (if there is a difference in IS or no IS, I am not sure) and I returned it the next day. The battery compartment is very hard to open and made from cheap plastic. I was afraid I was going to break it.

The SX120 will take better pictures than an SD1400. The SD1400 will be softer in the corners than the SX120, pretty much every Elph is fairly soft in the corners. The SX120 will also have more detail across the frame and it has a much longer zoom. The SX120's lens is optically superior to the SD1400's lens. The SX120 lens is optically 'faster' at most of the overlapping focals. The SX120 also has more control over exposure than the SD1400 does, it is a more capable camera for someone who wants to be creative. The SX120 has a bigger LCD and a better flash setup. The SX120 is less prone to red-eye. The SX120 is easier to hold and operate.

The SD1400 is small and lighter. The SD1400 shows less CA. The SD1400 does HD movies. The SD1400 has more megapixels (not a positive.) The SD1400's lens goes wider than the SX120's lens. The SD1400 has a slightly bigger imager, but you would not be able to tell by looking at the pictures from the camera. The SD1400 uses a proprietary battery.
