Sorry to repost this but I am hoping someone with advice may have missed my first post before it dissapeared from the board. I am debating between buying the Canon SD870 or the SD1100. The SD870 is about $40 more and has a wide angle lense, bigger LCD but no view finder, and .8 more zoom. Other than that I can't find any other differences in the two. Which would you buy given the choice of the two?

Thanks,
Angela

The Canon SD1100 IS is an 8 mp camera. I have this camera and its great, takes great pictures, does not have a lot of shutter lag, seems to snap pretty quick to me. I would definately recommend it!! Not sure about the other one though.

I've got the 870IS (except where I am it's called the 860)

The 28mm equivalent wide-angle lens is great, and the picture quality pretty impressive for a point-and-shoot. Videos are pretty reasonable too, and the LCD screen is easily viewable even in direct sunlight.

Best of all, it's so small that it can sit on a belt pouch everywhere I go.

(There were a few I took when I first got the camera; now that we have a little sunshine I'll need to get some newer ones online!)

Wow what beautiful the picutures and nice and clear. The countryside reminds me of upstate NY and the woods of NH but we don't have any beautiful old castles here in the US that I know of. Does it do well with close ups of people? After seeing the photos I am impressed.

Thanks for sharing,
Angela

Oops - sorry I missed your reponse! Andthank you for your kind comments.

The pictures were taken in and around Linlithgow Palace in Central Scotland. The official website for the palace is here, and you can find it on the map here.

Here are another couple of pictures to show 1) something of a people picture:

I can't find any indoor flash pictures of people; it's not a style of picturs I take all that often...

Hope this helps,

Alan,
Thank you for those close ups and links, I really appreciate them. Good news for me is yesterday I got a deal on the canon SD870 so I finally decided to purchase it. I go to WDW Aug 1st and wanted to make sure I had enough time to play with the camera and learn what I can do with it. Thanks for all your help.

Angela

:) Excellent! Please do post here and let us see how you get on with it
