So I am in the market for a new camera and I've narrowed it down to two finalists: the Canon S95 and the SX210 IS. Both are great cameras, but I can't decide which to choose. Why should I pick one over the other?

Thanks for your input!!!

Hey everyone!

So we're gearing up for our December trip to WDW and it's time to buy a new camera...

I've narrowed the list down to 2 or 3 cameras, all canon...SD4000, SD4500, and the S95...

I really like the stats on the SD4500 and the zoom of course. The only really big negative seems to be the battery life and no RAW...But how big a deal is the no RAW ability?

Second choice seems to be the S95, alot of reviews etc...seem to say this is the go to camera for point and shooting if you want close to DSLR quality...But I am not a fan of the low zoom and the pop up flash...

What does everyone think?

Anyone have these cameras?

Thanks,

Disgoat

We do not have a S95 (yet, we probably will soon) but we do have a G11 which has the same sensor and the same basic idea (more control for the photographer). If you plan to photograph in difficult lighting or if you plan to work with HDR then RAW is probably worthwhile (the reasons we went with a G11 and will get a S95).

These cameras have a much smaller dynamic range than the large sensor dSLRs and RAW along with HDR is a way to get more dynamic range. If you plan to stay with JPG and do not want to work with RAW conversion (many people do not) then the SD series may be a better choice.

If you really want the large zoom range then the S95 is completely out of the running. Btw, if you are interested in the S95 then you may also want to look at the G12, larger and heavier but a similar feature set with a few more options.
