Canon S5 IS ?

I was going to buy today at amazon the 3S, but then it says that the S5 is coming out in July...I really want to get this camera for my trip (Oct.26), so my question is if should I wait for the new model to come out, or should I get the S3? Is that much of a difference between pictures from a 8 mpix, to a 10 mpix? Do you think is worth the extra +/-$250?

It is not worth the extra IMO. Also, the move up in MPs is actually a downgrade as the small sensor is not really capable of capturing what they are trying to get out of it. It will either have more noise than the S3, or they will up the noise reduction and kill the sharpness.

Amazon shows it as being 2/3's more expensive ($500 vs $300). So what do you get for your extra $200?

A bigger LCD
A hotshoe for an external flash
1/3 higher resolution
Digic III processing

It's hard to say yet how the noise levels will compare. On one hand, increasing the number of pixels with the same size processor should increase noise. On the other hand, the camera makers improve their circuitry and image processing with each generation. We'll have to wait for hands-on reviews to know for sure what the differences in image quality will be.

Just with what we know, it seems hard to justify the extra cost unless you plan on taking a lot of flash shots and using an external flash. Doing that will really improve the quality of your flash pictures, but you have to ask yourself how likely you are to spend $150 on a flash that's nearly as big as the camera.

Thanks for the advice. I think I'm going to wait 'till the new one comes out, but not to get it, just wanted to see if the price for the S3 drops.
