Canon S3

Don't forget that the S6000fd has a real zoom ring, focus ring, and RAW mode. And a wider lens. And costs $50+ less. And that great larger sensor.

The problem is that, as of a day or two ago, it and the F31fd have been out of stock at Buydig/Beach, the usual places I check for those things... we're probably going to be selling the wife's Canon SD600 soon in favor of one of these (probably the F31) for the low-light ability, assuming I can find them for the same price that Beach sells 'em for!

As for the S5, you can get a real DSLR for less than they cost at the moment.

These were all taken from my backyard (all handheld, so the close-ups aren't SUPER clear, but just wanted to show the zoom!):

Chinaman's Hat - No zoom:

Chinaman's Hat - Zoomed, but not fully zoomed (is that a word?) - On full zoom you could see all the trees pretty clearly:

Waikane Pier - (Think "50 First Dates" . . . yup!, that's where a lot of it was filmed!) - Zoomed, but not fully:

SuperMacro of a plumeria (my favorite flower!):

I'm not sure I fully understand the difference between Macro and SuperMacro, but I'm getting there! SuperMacro is so much easier for me! Alrighty, just wanted to share . . .

Ahem - back to the real world. :teeth:

I finally got around to going through some of my fireworks/bonfire photos. Here are a few that came out ok. I used a tripod and switched back and forth between night portrait and fireworks modes for the most part.

This was neat:

I believe this was using sports mode. Kind of noisy.

Ok.. Inspired by this thread, I've been playing with new settings on my S2 (yeah, I know this is an S3 thread, but they're close!)...

Here is my first real trys with the color enhancement mode (done at my local zoo).

Thanks for posting. I love this thread. We are new S3 owners - 2 weeks and have been playing with it and love it. It's amazing how great the videos come out. Still reading the book and trying to figure everything out, there is so much the camera can do. If you don't mind I have one question, (actually a lot of course as a new user but I'll just ask one). We tried the color enhancement but could not figure out how to select a color. Everything came out in black and white. Is there something else we are supposed to do? Any help would be appreciated. MY son is leaving for Romania/Tansylvannia tomorrow and is taking the new camera with him. He will continue reading the book on the long flight, he is basically the number one picture taker but I just love taking pictures also so we are both learning it. Thanks.

the long and the short of it?
1. Set to color accent in SCN mode.
2. Focus in on what you want to take a picture of. Click set.
3. Push the left arrow button on the big circle button on the back (not sure of it's name, LOL) until you see the color you want to isolate.
4. Click set
5. Take picture.
:)

Hope this helps!

I got my S3 a few months ago after reading many raves on this board about it. I LOVE IT! I'm just now getting a chance to share some of my pics.

ok, so this is a picture I took of a picture on my desktop, lol. Wish I had this camera when this photo was actually taken. I love the color accent feature!

I've got some more I'll do in another post of sports mode.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE that you can just hold the button down and it will take continous shots. I know I wouldn't have gotten these shots with my old digital.

I wish this pic was alittle more centered, but I was trying to watch the action too! And yes, he did throw the runner out. :o) That's my boy! :thumbsup2

This lovely crash was on the front stretch and we were on the back stretch 2 rows from the very top. So.....pretty far away.....

Jen, welcome to the S3 family! I'm also a fan of Sports mode and the continuous shutter but BEWARE!! That continuous shutter will eat up a memory card real fast. I took pictures of our marching band in the 4th of July parade using continuous shutter (I always used to miss getting shots of my 2 boys, but not any more!) - our band only has 100 members, less than that marching on the 4th due to vacations, and I ended up with 200 pictures during the parade! And you don't even want to know about continuous shutter during the fireworks that night....;)

I don't know if I'm doing something wrong when I take pics in the "Color Accent" mode . . . When I take my pics (after I set my color), everything else in the pic will pick up a tinge of the color. I have a HUGE problem with red. When I set my color to red, I get the object in red PLUS lips, cheeks, SKIN, et . . . and it's not just a "tinge". Is there any way to fix this? I see everyone else's pics using color accent and those seem to be fine. HELP!!!

Thank you! :)

In the same screen where you set the color, there is also an adjustment number where you can set the sensitivity (up to +/-5). Is it possible that you pushed this way up or down?

Try resetting this to the middle and see how that goes.
