I don't know if I'm doing something wrong when I take pics in the "Color Accent" mode . . . When I take my pics (after I set my color), everything else in the pic will pick up a tinge of the color. I have a HUGE problem with red. When I set my color to red, I get the object in red PLUS lips, cheeks, SKIN, et . . . and it's not just a "tinge". Is there any way to fix this? I see everyone else's pics using color accent and those seem to be fine. HELP!!!

Thank you! :)

I thought I had this color accent thing figured out; your posts inspired me to go out and try some more. Here's my garden, a whole bunch of diff. colors, first one shot on Program mode:
IMG_4302.jpg

Same thing, only shot on foliage mode; I really like the way it intensified the colors, but not TOO much:
IMG_4303.jpg

This is accenting only the orange (for all of these, I set the intensity to 0):
IMG_4304.jpg

For this one, I chose pink, but for some reason, it picked up the blue, too! Any idea why??? Again, I had the intensity set to 0.
IMG_4305.jpg

I zoomed in to be sure the little square in the viewfinder where you choose the color was completely on pink, and it STILL picked up blue:
IMG_4310.jpg

This one, I chose yellow, but it also picked up on the green:
IMG_4306.jpg

Accenting green, but notice the blue, orange and yellow colors, too:
IMG_4308.jpg

Can somebody tell me why choosing pink also picked up blue, and yellow picked up green? I could maybe understand if pink maybe picked up diff. shades of red since they're in the same color family, but blue?

(I know the shots aren't great composition-wise; I was just experimenting with this camera feature.)

Jen ~ I COULD NOT stop laughing when I saw the picture you posted! That's EXACTLY what's happening to mine . . . I just didn't have the guts to post um :thumbsup2 Thanks for that! I've tried playing around with the intensity (up and down) arrows to make it better, and it does for most colors . . . but not red! I don't think there's any way around it!

Amy ~ The same thing happens to me w/ my color accent. At first I thought it would pick up any color in that color family (red/pink, etc), but now I don't know . . .

AbbysFamily ~ Thanks for the reply :)

SplshMtn99, Pea-n-Me, S. C. ~ Thanks for the comments on my backyard!!! :) I love living there!

Weird! The only other thought that I have is to 'ignore' the little square and try and get REAL close and make sure the color you want is in the whole area?? I had to do that to get the yellow and orange both right in my flower shot.

The only other thing I can think of is that the camera can't tell the difference (??!)

I'm going to have to play some more now..

It might be a codec issue. Try downloading ffdshow (usually using the alpha version works just fine) and then trying to play it.

You can also try grabbing the free version of Zoom Player, it has an "Install Center" which will automatically download the components you need to play back the vast majority of video files. It can also update them when new versions come along, if you run the Install Center again. Very slick. Zoom Player itself is pretty incredible but definitely not very user-friendly - it's got some amazing power though.

Ok.. Inspired by this thread, I've been playing with new settings on my S2 (yeah, I know this is an S3 thread, but they're close!)...

Here is my first real trys with the color enhancement mode (done at my local zoo).

Love this shot! I have an S2 as well and just really enjoy this camera! I noticed that in this shot, the yellow was selected, and it did NOT pick up on the green like it did in your other shots. Very strange:confused3 . I would try getting closer before you set the actual color and see if that helps - and the other thing to consider is how "yellow" the green may be - right now my entire yard would pop up because of all the yellow/brown in it due to lack of rain! :guilty: We're leaving for 3 weeks in the Adirondacks so hopefully I'll get some practice time in while we're there!!:thumbsup2 TFS!:flower3:

Occasionally, I have the same problem with the color accent from time to time - I posted this picture upthread, but it still baffles me how it picked up the orange and the pink. If they were close to each other, I might be able to see how it happened...

I like how it looks, though!

I'm going to assume that you mean downloading them from the camera to the PC. Are you using the direct cable connection from the camera to your computer or are you using a card reader? I once had a problem where a video I had would not download using the cable. I had to use a card reader to get the video onto my computer. This only happened once and it happened to be on a video that I shot the maximum size that the camera would allow. It stopped recording during that video and I had to start a new one to continue shooting.

Anyways, this file needed a card reader for no apparent reason. The file was fine but I would get an error when trying to go direct from the camera to the PC.

By the way, my advice is from an S2 IS but it could be a very similar problem.

Thanks! Thats my favorite pic I've taken in quite a while. The pic with green wasn't me. I agree with the idea of getting closer. Thats how I got it so isolate the 2 colors (yellow and darker orangish) without picking up green, etc. I have a funny feeling that the camera doesn't "see" colors the way we do, so getting closer to the color helps.

With the S2 IS, I zoom all the way in so that the whole frame is the color I want, shoose that color, zoom out and re-compose the shot. I get much less color problems that way. The cameras get confused alot with yellows and greens, especially as mentioned by LMarge when greens are dying and turning yellowish. I don't know what to say about the red problem. Maybe I'll try some red accents tomorrow.

4Disneyfans- Does the man in the picture have a sunburn? :lmao: Actually, that would make sense or he is wearing lipstick and blush! Also, you picked up a nice red butt in the background too! :rotfl2: Seriously though, that is strange why you would have this problem. I know nothing of it. Like I said, I'll try some tomorrow. In your case, it could just be a skin color thing. Different lighting can make things look slightly different colors. We don't pick up on it because I think our brains tune it out. Cameras don't have brains so they record what they see. Just a guess.

Could it be that the camera picks up on the "base colors"? For example w/ the pink and blue flowers. I saw those flowers as purple. Red is one of the two primary colors in both pink and purple (remembering the color wheel from grade school art class). The little ball player w/ the reddish helmet and orange shorts - red is one of the primaries of orange. Yellow is one of the primaries in green, like the yellow flowers and green grass example.

Okay, so I need to go back to work and stop with the color wheel already. :rotfl:

BTW - you all take such great pictures. Keep sharing.

You may be right, snowman. I don't plan on using that feature too often, so it's not a big deal to me. But it IS kind of neat when it works right, like the yellow flowers that AbbysFamily did.

I'll just chalk this up to one of those camera "things" I'll never understand, right along with resampling an image (still can't understand that, LOL!).

Those are my thoughts on it, too... I don't use it a lot, and I didn't buy the camera for the feature. I didn't even know about it until I saw pictures on this thread, LOL!

I do agree, when it works, it is VERY cool! :cool1:

I had this problem as well until I...... (see below)

Zooming WAY in on the red is how I was able to get those red-lips pictures.

On a side note - what kind of camera case does everyone have? I need one.

Here is my selective color shot from my S2. This is my friends old house. Oct 2005. This is from when I first bought the camera and was trying all the modes. Now I never think to use them all.....better start again.;)

I have the LowePro Edit 100 - kind of a tight fit, but it DOES have room for extra batteries, SD cards, etc. We have the Edit 110 for our camcorder, and I think that would be better for the S3.

Would anyone know how or if I can save a photo once I take it and view it on the screen and I zoom in on it, can I save it then after I have zoomed in on the photo that I already took. I hope someone understands my question. Thanks.

I was talking to a co-worker at work last night who also has an S3. He said he had a problem with his LCD screen "whiting out" but turned out there was a recall on this anyway and Canon took care of it for him at no cost.

Has anyone heard of this?
