Fireworks tonight. Plan on using Fireworks mode with Gorilla Pod set up of railing on pier at harbor (ack) or Night snapshot or sports. And in continuous shooting to hopefully catch the firework at the right moment.

What does "CA/PF" stand for?

Chromatic Aberration/Purple Fringing ... it looks like a reddish/purplish "halo" around areas of high contrast. It occurs most often at the long end of a zoom, and closing up the aperture helps to reduce it.

and lord knows there's nothing worse than the man in the moon being overexposed. full moon indeed.

i would concur it's T&E. there's a lot of atmospheric conditions that could get involved. the phase of the moon is also indirectly responsible as it becomes a matter of how much light the moon itself is reflecting/'emitting'

Thank goodness I found him before our dog did! Isn't he cute?

These last two, I got down low and tried shooting thru the grass. Mama bird started screeching at me from high up in the tree then, so I didn't stick around much longer - didn't want her to dive-bomb my head!

And now our poor dog will have to go out on a leash until I'm sure baby has left our yard. I don't mind when he kills moles, but I don't want him killing a cute little baby bird.

I'm bck from fireworks, but still at my parents house on Cape Cod with just a laptop. I won't know how my pics really came out until I get home to a real computer. lol They are on super slow dial up down here. No way am I going to be posting pics with that.

I must have taken several hundred photos using continuous shoot. And I pretty much used just night snapshot. Handheld &/or elbows resting on the pier railings. I tried a few in fireworks mode but it took along time for the picture to right to the card & I would miss the next shot. Night snapshot wrote quickly. I'm sure I'll have editing & noise work to do on them though.

I just checked. 725 shots of fireworks. Maybe I'll get one good one.

OK, I just looked at some of them on the laptop screen -- not as nice as screen at home. I can see the shots taken in fireworks mode are much crisper than the nightsnapshot mode --even though they were all handheld. I know I would have missed more shots in fireworks mode due to timing & waiting for card to write. BUT fireworks mode are much nicer!! Wish I had done more that way. I only did a few.

I tried night snapshot and fireworks modes tonight on the S2IS and found that the firewoks mode goes with a 2 second shutter speed. This takes a bit to write to the card, and I have a fast card. I stuck with manual after that as I was having a terrible time with focus issues for some reason. I posted my 2 good pics (out of 250 or so) on the Fireworks 2007 thread. this was my first try at fireworks of any kind so I may have been doing something wrong. Who knows? When I go to WDW in November, I will be a DSLR owner for sure. I love the S2IS but have seen enough of the limitations to tell me that I need to upgrade. I will keep the S2 for my backup though as it has really impressed me over the past year and a half, and I am generally happy with my results. I do, however have a hot pixel or two on the sensor that annoys me at times. Actually, I think it is a group of about 9 pixels all together. Oh well, can't fix that.

725? Shoot, I thought I was bad with 404, LOL. Halfway through my batteries died and I thought I had more but didn't. Luckily we called someone who was joining us and he stopped at the store for me. Batteries and I don't seem to get along too well.

I agree, I didn't get a huge number of good shots, maybe just a handful. The shots that came out the nicest from a color standpoint were the ones using night snapshot or fireworks mode. I did use a nice, big tripod so at least there wasn't a lot of blur. I was a little frustrated with the shutter speed (will have to invest in some high speed cards) so I used sports mode here and there in order to capture the actual fireworks, and though I got some, the pictures did come out very noisy.

Thanks to all those those who posted fireworks tips, I'm grateful.

Here are my fireworks shots from tonight. All were shot using a tripod on Night Snapshot, Manual Focus set to infinity. I took over 300 shots, ended up with only 139 that were ok.

I agree, it did take too long with the fireworks setting. I missed a lot of great shots because of it. We also had our two youngest grandkids with us so i just kept it on fireworks setting since i didn't have time to change the settings. I didn't have a tripod but used the arms on my lounge chair to rest my elbows on to steady the shots. I turned the swivel screen (my new best friend) so i could see what i was shooting. Our pickup truck was behind us so i knew the screen light wouldn't bother anyone, and i blocked part of it with my hand/arm.

Night Snapshot worked great for you. There are more fireworks in a few days not too far from us, I may go & try other settings. This was my first attempt at fireworks.

I really enjoyed walking around at the zoo taking pictures ~ it was amazing how many photo opportunities just jumped right out at me. And, I know how many pictures I took in just a few hours at the zoo.... our October vacation, with the beach and WDW... for 8 days? Oh boy... LOL

I am REALLY impressed with these being hand held shots. I remember shooting Wishes at WDW and some of my shots really looking bad because I was trying to hold it steady for so long.
