Canon S3

Unfortunately, no laptop. Not sure about the ship having someway of downloading for me.

I have 2 cards, both ScanDisk. One is a regular 2.0 GB, the other an Ultra II 2.0 GB. I guess I may just have to pray to the "camera gods" that everything will be fine;) !!

You could always spend the next couple of days trying to fill up your cards (just take pictures/video of EVERYTHING) a couple of times and reformat them, and you might be able to build some confidence in your existing cards.

If you can do it at home without problems, you'll feel better while on vacation. And, if you do have a problem, you'll know which card not to fully trust....

Also, just in general terms, you're probably better off NOT filling each card to it's absolute capacity.... :)

Good luck! :thumbsup2

Good luck! :thumbsup2 Thank you!

I'll make sure I post pics when I get back:)

I am considering buying an S3 soon...this is interesting information for sure. Based on what I know and what was in the referenced thread, I would guess this is likely a low battery problem - which in turn can be pointed to the camera for not recognizing the low power issue.

In any event, I always suggest 2 or more smaller cards rather than 1 big card so that events like this do not kill all of your pictures.

You have GOT to be kidding! I feel like I'm drawing with crayons when I compare my pictures to Stitch's and Andrew's and some of you others on this thread! I just figured out how to set the ISO so auto doesn't take over and change it, and I can't even get macro to work for me (but I CAN get super macro to work), and you want me to do stuff like water droplets and candle-lit glassware?? :lmao: :lmao:

I'll see what I can do, but don't hold your breath.......

I love how you put this! I feel like I'm scribbling with crayons, but I love seeing everything that is being posted. Maybe I'll get better.

IF this is the problem, it seems like the battery has to completely die for it to occur. The S3 should have a blinking red battery light on the LCD that tells you that the battery is dying. The S2 does, so I am assuming the S3 does. At that point, you should probably change batteries. Again, IF that is the problem, the camera probably freaks in the middle of a pic that cannot be completely written. I have never had this problem with the S2. It just shuts off after I press the shutter if the batteries are dead.

When you go to the World how many and what kind of batteries do you take? Rechargeable? I've never travelled with this camera and right now just use disposable.

Damn!! $279!! I just payed $330 two weeks ago!!!! Is this an advertised thing, or a web special? I think I might have to call BestBuy and see if they've got any sort of "price protection"!!

OMG, it is $449 on the website! Are they crazy?

The deal was in the Sunday paper for 20% all Canon cameras. The S3 is $349 regular price, so with 20% off, that's $279! I called to make sure they had it in stock, and the guy said verified the price. I guess I should run over there before everyone finds out what a deal that is! :rotfl:

Thank you all for your responses!

My plan for my trip in November is to take one set of rechargables and charge them every night. I usually bring 4 alkalines with me too just in case. That may be overkill though as I would think that one set of rechargables in the 2000-2500 mAh range will probably last you the whole day, if not longer. Better safe than sorry.

Andy

I always travel with three sets of rechargeables. Two with me and one back in the room charging.

YEE HAW!!! I DID IT!

Check it out! (Yes, I know I didn't do such a great job with the background, so just ignore the toothbrush, okay?)

And here's the zoom, but I had my ISO at 400 so it's really grainy and it didn't really capture a face like Andy's princesses.....

I don't know if I'll be able to do the wine glass - we don't have any etched/faceted wine glasses. Maybe I'll have to do the beer glass. Nah, after taking over 80 pics just to get this one drop, I'm going to DRINK the beer, forget about any more pictures tonight!

Great job Amy! I knew you could do it. It's not that hard, now is it?

That's a great shot. You should be proud. :cool1:

Congratulations!

There is a lot of information here http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1235546&referrerid=70088 particularly toward the end of the thread, see posts from LPZ Stitch. There was also some battery and format information posted on two of the other Canon S3 threads on this page yesterday.

Get out and practice with the camera before your trip. On posts 188 and 120 of the above thread, there are some very helpful links for using this camera - go to the sites, click on the name of the camera, and follow the in-depth instructions for how to use the camera; and Amy posted a link for the Short Course book on Canon S3 - I'm going to order, too.

Have fun!

thanks for the info. looks like i have pleanty of reading to do:thumbsup2

OK, I think I should stick with crayons. :rotfl: Here's mine. My BIGGEST problem was just getting a drip IN the photo. My timing was off I guess. This is actually the only photo of 50 that had a drip this large in it. :guilty:
I THINK I had all the settings the same - finally.

I would like to try this again tomorrow. Any ideas? Maybe faster drips? I tried some papers behind, but it always just glared & washed out the shot.

Yes - give me a time and I'll send my son over! :rotfl:
You are only like an hour away. ;)

Actually, I went back & read some of the last pages. I'll try again tomorrow & have to FINALLY dig out the book it seems. sigh..... I hate manuals. ;)

Hey, at least you get to see our new faucets. Water is water....you know what THAT looks like. hehehehe

Oh....and I think I have the same wine glasses. LOL

I can see DH tomorrow evening when dinner isn't ready.
HIM: "What did you DO all day?"
ME: "Ummmm, took pictures of the faucet?"

Nice faucet! :thumbsup2

I think my mistake in my own photo was that I was too close. I should have moved back and zoomed in. I also didn't hold down the Manual Focus button. If I try it again it'll be in the daytime (no flash).

The colors in Stitch's original picture posted were amazing. The pictures in the drops are cool, too. I like having these types of challenges, feels like we're in class. :)
