Canon S3

What kind of batteries/charger do you all use with your S3?

I'm still using the batteries I got with the camera, but after they go, I'll be using rechargeables, and I have bought some lithium batteries as well - I believe they have a very long life. I'm not sure which is the best, but I am willing to test them all...!!!;)

I use Energizer batteries made for digital cameras. I have rechargables but prefer disposable. I had a major battery issue with my last camera and had much better luck with the Energizers, so I got in the habit of using them.

My last camera would take about 8 (yes 8) pictures with flash before the batteries died. :faint: Now with the S3 I can get 200 or so. I don't have to be thinking about the batteries every second. I don't use the LCD all that much, but I do shoot video sometimes.

I had a problem this winter with the camera not working in very cold weather, -1 degree. Turned out it was a battery issue. There's something about it in the manual, page 53 if I recall. The solution, I learned, was in cold weather keep one set of batteries in your pocket and interchange them so they stay warm.

I know a lot of people buy the rechargeable batteries but I personally like using lithium batteries.

:cool1:  Bought it off of Amazon.com Sunday night for $293.00. I have read so many positive reports on here, so I had to break down and buy it before our trip to Florida. Hopefully next weekend I can get some pictures on here.

Two questions: Do you prefer the Lithium Batteries or the rechagables? And how do you format the SD card in the camera?

Thanks inadvance for your help:thumbsup2

Bob,

To format:

If it is the same as the S2, you just turn on the camera, hit the menu button, toggle to the right to the tab with the wrench and hammer pic and toggle down until you find where it says format. Then you his the set button and toggle over to "ok".

Batteries:

I have never used lithiums. I have had good luck with some rechargables and have also used just plain old alkalines. The cameras are very good on batteries overall. They last quite awhile.

That's not a bad price. I just searched ebay real quick and found the wide angle lens was going for around $150 and the teleconverter lens for around $110. However, you also have to buy the kit to be able to use them too and that runs around $30.

Search ebay for the part numbers and they will come up.

wow great price! my daughter used lithium in her p&s and they lasted about 600-800 photos...so for an occasional user they are fine but most of us fanatics;) on this board would probably want something rechargeable

something i think is a nice feature with canon is they seem fairly consistent about their menus/dials etc...that's the same way you format with rebel xt/ as well as my daughters A600 series so you can transfer what you know from camera to camera

make sure you post some photos

haven't gone through this whole thread but nice shots pea, i have to say that little camera amazes me( not that some credit doesn't go to the shooters;) )
don't know if makinorlando has been on here but i think she has the converters

Congratulations!

There is a lot of information here http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1235546&referrerid=70088 particularly toward the end of the thread, see posts from LPZ Stitch. There was also some battery and format information posted on two of the other Canon S3 threads on this page yesterday.

Get out and practice with the camera before your trip. On posts 188 and 120 of the above thread, there are some very helpful links for using this camera - go to the sites, click on the name of the camera, and follow the in-depth instructions for how to use the camera; and Amy posted a link for the Short Course book on Canon S3 - I'm going to order, too.

Have fun!

I think you meant to thank LPZ Stitch! - but I agree, getting out and playing with it is the best thing you can do. Also look at some of the links he posted in post 118 and consider ordering the Short Courses book that Amy posted in post 120.

Have fun!

Inspired by danielg over on the Some S3 Pics thread on the Digital Camera Resourse Page, I tried my hand at capturing a water droplet:

And, here's my wife's mini-rose in a rainstorm. I love the water droplets on the leaves, but the big rose seems a little *too* red (maybe I shouldn't have used Vivid mode)....

What kind of batteries/charger do you all use with your S3?

I've been using these 2500mAh Powerizer batteries from Battery Space in my S3 ... so far, I've not run out the charge on the first set, but I've only taken about 200 pictures (some with flash) and about 10 minutes of video, so far.

I've been charging then in a multi-battery (charges anything from AAA- to D-size batteries) charger from Energizer. I think we bought it at BestBuy....
